It sounds like you are using the Finale demo.
The demo can only print the first page of a document, and it can't save.

Instead, use the free Finale NotePad.
NotePad can both print and save.

If the layout capabilities of NotePad are too limited for you, get some bucks.
Finale Songwriter is only $ 50.

Help!!
I would like to print real, foldable scores on 11x17 paper, in the correct page order with 2 8-1/2x11 pages from my file per side. I am not sure if Finale will do this or if I need to use a layout program such as Quark or InDesign. I just can't figure out how to do it and I have wasted packs of paper trying to figure it out.

I either get one 8-1/2 part on one side of two separate 11x17 pages or two parts on 11x17 but they are in miniature.

The bigger question is this: Can this be done with files originally saved to print single 8-1/2 pages or does the 11x17 format have to be set BEFORE the part is even written?

Thanks in advance.

I think you should set up your pages as 8½ x 11 in Finale, and then, in the printer driver dialog, select 11 x 17 as the physical (paper) page size and a page layout with two Finale pages per physical page. This is what I would do with my Canon i865 printer. Check out your printer manual to see how to do this. The printer vendor might call it something like booklet layout printing.

Nickies answer is correct! Watch out with the order of the pages. For a score with 8 pages, you should print in the order 8,1,2,7,6,3,4,5 to get a booklet.

If you search the web, you should be able to find some third party software that can keep track of the order of the pages for you.

I seem to remember some shareware called 'ClickBook', but that was long ago.

Thanks so much for all of the help!

Works perfectly!

Another surprise: There is a FinaleScript which does
booklet printing and an explanation of the various page
orders as well. It is included in Finale 2005b and probably
has been there in previous versions but I just found it.

ClickBook is made by Blue Squirrel Software and it's great. The current version is 8.0 and it's a lot better, but expensive a bit. you can find discounts for it, though.
