Hello,

I would be very happy if a professional Finale user could help me, because I'm starting to give up, honestly. I'm using Finale 2014 on Windows. My question is, that how can I have the last barline, so at the end of every staff (1st image) (or line) connected through staves, in my example 4 staves of a SATB, choir sheet, BUT without using the Group and Bracket option? I attached some pictures if that helps.

The funny thing is that I've done it already (2nd image), but I totally forgot, how did I do (that's the life, if you have a memory like a golden fish..). So it is possible to do it, but I searched for like 4 hours and nothing. You can tell the difference between the method I used and the Group and Bracket, Staff Attributes method, because my barline at the end of every row is black, and if you use the group method it's blue.

Please don't suggest the Smart Shape tool or something like that, because I'm sure I didn't use that, I don't even know where to look for that.

TL;DR: A barline through staves, but not with Group and Bracket or Smart Shape.

Thanks in advice!

Ferenc

Welcome to the forum.

I'm on my way to a rehearsal, so I can't work on your question at the moment, but...

It's not necessary to use all of the layers 1-4 in your document. Layers are generally used in contrapuntal layout on a single staff. So you could be using layer one for all of the voices. That generally works better, because stem direction, etc., are set to common defaults.

Document menu > Document Options > Barlines

Is the option “Close Barline at End of Each System” selected or de-selected?

@miker: Thanks for the tip. I like to use the possibilities of layers, I use it often to filter voices, so I can hear only the Bass, Bass and Soprano and so on.

@Peter Thomsen: Thank you very, very much. I can't believe I didn't checked those options. I appreciate it!

You can still put everything in layer one, and use the Mixer to mute or solo tracks.

Or, to quickly hear a single staff, shift-spacebar and click on a staff.
