I'm currently transcribing a song and I've gotten to a part where the right hand kind of rolls..and I don't really know how else to express it in sheet music without using the glissando notation. But when I use a glissando with this chord, it always ascends, rather than descending, which makes it sound odd.
How do I change the direction of the glissando?

Usually, you need to give the gliss a starting and ending note, and then make sure the glissando marking goes up or down in the desired direction.

It sounds to me like he's talking about an arpeggiated chord, not a gliss. And I'll SWEAR I remember something about this. But maybe it was just in a guitar chord, where you could have the strum go either way...

Yeah, I'm talking about an arpeggiated chord. Sorry that I didn't specify. I start the gliss from the top note to the bottom note but it's still an ascending gliss.

I believe there might be a separate symbol for the "roll" with the arrow pointed down. If not, then you can edit the roll by reversing the timing of each note, the top note having a lower value, than the bottom note, etc.

Hello! New to the forum and found an old thread that deals with a problem I am having. I really do need a descending gliss for a trombone part. I have 3 notes in succession and am trying to indicate the trombone to gliss down from the first to second note, and gliss up from the second to third note. After notating this with the Gliss Tool, the descending gliss is colored red, the ascending gliss colored yellow. In playback, the red descending gliss does not work, the ascending gliss does. I've tried using the Bend Tool in place of the descending gliss but the beginning note plays back at a higher pitch than what is notated. Using the Slide Tool gives the same result as the Gliss Tool. Any other suggestions?

Please post a Finale file containing just that measure. It needs to be examined by one of the gurus.

Pardon my ignorance here. This seems to be a Kai Winding quote. I think I missed the humor, but would like to know the inside story.
