Repitch tool broken in 25.2?
Moderators: Peter Thomsen, miker
I can't get the Repitch Tool to work any more. Does anyone else have this problem?

I'm most definitely in the right layer. I'll give this a try in 2014.5 and see what happens.

It still works in 2014.5 so it looks like a problem with 25.2 on the Mac. Grrr! My first report to MM this year.

Hi Vaughan,
I have tested Repitch in 25.2 on the Mac (with 10.11.6) and it works...
Maybe a restart will fix your problem.

Might be a problem with 10.12.2. This update broke a number of things.

It's with a MIDI keyboard. I'm away from home right now and bought a new MIDI controller (Acorn masterkey 49) and thought it might have to do with that, but it works fine for entering notes and Repitch works with this setup in 2014.5 so it must be something else. And yes, I've tried restarting.

It turned out to be a 'corrupted' preferences file, whatever that means. Since removing it and redoing my preferences, the Repitch Tool works normally. I'd be curious to know how the preferences file can disturb a single function, and what might have caused it. Oh well, Finale moves in curious ways...

The "Preferences" file in reality seems to be all manner of other things that Finale remembers in addition to what preferences have been set. It would be nice if they separated the two so the user doesn't have to suffer recreating their preferences when one of the myriad Finale bugs rears its head.
+1!

It has often been suggested to keep a "clean" prefs file, for just that reason.
I would still delete the flawed one and restart, before copying the clean one back in.

One cannot argue with success, but on the Win side, I can find no reference to the Repitch Tool in FINALE.INI, unless it is in one of the undocumented settings found in the Program Options section, and cannot imagine how creating a new preferences file would help this situation.Vaughan wrote:It turned out to be a 'corrupted' preferences file, whatever that means. Since the problem had to do with MIDI input, it might be in the FINMIDI file. It may not be something obvious.
Before I recreate the ini files, I save the corrupted ones to study and compare with the newly created one. I can't say that I have ever found the cause of the problems, but I keep trying. By the way, I recreate them one at a time. No reason to rebuild both sets of preferences if only one is corrupt.

I believe the Windows Finale.ini file and the Mac .fprf file are very different. Prior to 25, the Mac pref file was just a large clump of numbers, and not human readable at all. Now, it's been revised and is XML, though some of it is still a large bunch of numbers surrounded by tags.Charles Lawrence wrote:on the Win side, I can find no reference to the Repitch Tool in FINALE.INI,
I'd be interested in seeing a Windows .ini file, for the sake of idle curiosity.

Some things are labelled, but there's a bunch of numbers as well, so I wouldn't take a lack of literal reference to the repitch tool as evidence of much.

The entries that start with g are the keyboard assignments. Jari used to have a utility for customizing this file to one's needs. That is now outdated. He actually has detailed instructions somewhere for editing these numbers, but I would back up my file first, as it could go awry, according to his own warning.

I actually edit
to change key mapping in Speedy Entry (using information obtained from Jari). I didn't know about the G numbers.[SpeedyKeys]

You are correct. I mis-spoke. Sorry. I needed a second cup of coffee. Now all is well.

P.S.: Finale Tweak was the utility. Do you have the instructions for the Key mapping? It seems I do somewhere, but I can't seem to locate them.

The new improved Mac pref file contains some parameters that could be set from the Unix shell, e.g.:
But then it also has stuff like this, which is probably still where the trouble lies:
Code: Select all
<key>showHyperscribeInRewireWarning</key>

<key>showPrintingSetsWarning</key>
<string>1</string>
<key>slaveToReWireMaster</key>
