tab numbers change to different numbers when entering them

Sometimes when I enter a chord in the tab staff, the number changes to the 1st number as I enter on the next string. All numbers change each time as I enter them. Is it because I'm not using stems and aren't hitting the note in the right place? This usually happens when I'm entering 1/4 note triplets.

Mike, is there a way that can be changed? Or is it an intrinsic part of the forum format?miker wrote:To post a .mus file here, it must be compressed (zipped) and cannot exceed 100 kb in size.

I haven't tried it yet, but what about .MUSX files which are already compressed ZIP files.

It is the file name extension that counts.Charles Lawrence wrote:I haven't tried it yet, but what about .MUSX files which are already compressed ZIP files.
The file name extensions .mus and .musx are not allowed for attachments.
But file name extensions for compressed files (like e. g. .zip) are allowed.

Test to upload MUSX file.
Test seemed to work, but 100KB is too severe a restriction, since a blank default file is > 80 KB already.

Even 250KB is too small IMHO. I suggest no less than 1MB. I have many MUSX/MUS files larger than 250KB, and I don't have a very large collection, and none with what might be deemed large scores, like fully orchestrated symphonies or operas. Maybe someone with such a collection should chime in here with a recommended file size to accommodate "large" scores.

I suggest you get a cloud space provider and link to your files there (Dropbox, Google Drive, OneDrive, etc.).

Most of us already have such "cloud space providers" (what a buzz phrase ), but as has been said before, having to go outside the forum to do what you need is less than desirable. Keep everything under one roof. One stop shopping. etc.FinaleForum wrote:I suggest you get a cloud space provider and link to your files there (Dropbox, Google Drive, OneDrive, etc.).

I've just checked a single scene from an opera (one of 12 .musx files that make up the complete piece). It is 1.1MB as a Finale .musx file and 848KB as a PDF. However, I'm not sure one would very often want to up-load a complete Finale file of that size, as opposed to a few pages of it, so 250KB seems fairly workable meantime.Charles Lawrence wrote:Even 250KB is too small IMHO … … … Maybe someone with such a collection should chime in here with a recommended file size to accommodate "large" scores.

I agree. We rarely (never) need to see an entire piece to diagnose a problem. I think the addition of .mus, .musx, and increase to 250 MB are all great.
Thanks, Scott!

Unfortunately, it's simply not our mission to provide a file swapping service. This site exists to help people discuss Finale and that's really the bottom line. We are here for discussion purposes and that's about it. The attachments feature is only used to enhance the discussion by allowing samples of Finale scores.

Dropbox is very simple to share links with. Jight-click the file, select "Copy Dropbox link," and paste it into the text box.

Better to post an example of the problem you're having than your entire piece. For the times where the entire piece is mysteriously broken, an offsite link seems fine. Posterity is not going to care about such a file.
I think small is fine.

Gentlemen/Ladies,
There seems to be a change of opinion on the issue of having to use a "cloud" server to upload/download file examples/snippets large or small. Refer to this thread discussing the issue, among others, when MM announced it was closing their forum and moving to a new site where such a policy would be in effect.

Dan,
I did not mean to imply that anyone was "paying" for anything. "One stop shopping" is a phrase that I used simply to mean that everything you need to do is found in one place, i.e. this forum.
Folks,
Don't get me wrong. I think that the recent changes to allow MUSX and MUS files to be uploaded/downloaded directly, and the increase to a 250MB file size is great. Motet, I think you would agree that 80KB was just too small and not "fine". The 250KB current file size will probably suffice for the exchange of files or portions thereof to users via this forum, for the purpose of discussion or debugging. The exchange of large complete scores may best be left to the "cloud", or, as it used to be called for decades before the nebulous buzz word cloud was dreamed up, on-line storage, but there may come a time...

Charles,
I read that forum thread you linked. I do agree there are some good points regarding links not being long-term.
I also know that there are real, tangible issues regarding this forum and available bandwidth <> cost. Hopefully 250KB will be enough for the time being. Certainly I think that's enough for troubleshooting.
I'm sure the forum will grow and change over time, as cloud computing grows.
Regards,
Dan

According to email I recently received, DropBox is doing away with the concept of Public folders in March. I don't know how that will affect anyone going forward—and frankly, I chose not to speculate till the new rules go into effect.
I'm good with a 250K example size. I want to see the problem, not your entire work (unless it's short). If I get interested enough to want to see the whole thing, I'll back-channel you, ok?

The reason they are doing away with the public folder is because you can now share any file, regardless of where it is in your dropbox folders. Just right click and copy link.
