Is there no way to put a url in one's signature? I would like to link to the transposition chart I've posted here so that when transposition questions come up from time to time I can refer people to it and they can easily download it. Scott, can enable urls in signatures? I don't see any downside to it bandwidth-wise.

To make sure that Scott (= the forum administrator) sees your question, you may have to send a Private Message.motet wrote:… Scott, can enable urls in signatures? I don't see any downside to it bandwidth-wise.

Until that option might be added, try putting it in in your profile that shows on the right side of your post?motet wrote:Is there no way to put a url in one's signature? I thought I had posted here after communicating with the admin, but apparently having URLs in signatures is a spam-bot enabler.
I wonder if BBCode is allowed in those profile fields. The administrator kindly made the topic with the chart a sticky one, so I can point people there when the need arises. On the old forum, I had to leave all the old versions of the chart there for those who stumbled across an old posting, so perhaps this is for the best, as I can delete old ones if I revise the chart. I may try a plain-text link to that thread in my signature.

I could be wrong here, but I think that “new” posts are posts that have been here for less than 24 hours.motet wrote:So what makes a post "new", as opposed to "unread"?
If you (perhaps by mistake) click on “View new posts” (instead of clicking on “View unread posts”), you will see the posts from the latest 24 hours, both the unread posts, and the posts you have read already.

With at least one user, if I click on their userid, "Last visited:" says "-". Is there a setting they used to hide that information, or is it a glitch? It's sometimes useful to know if someone has likely read your post.

You might have to log off and then back on. I don't know. Or, enjoy the dark side. We trolls are used to that.

Motet,
I see you have emerged from the dark side. I don't see why anyone would particularly want to remain hidden as far as when they last visited the site. I am not paranoid about letting it be known who I am, my real name, where I live, how to contact me, my background, or my interests. To each his own, but I've never had any problem.

The troll is so valuable we celebrate his quirky behavior whatever that may be.
I notice that Google [Bot], Google Adsense [Bot], and Yahoo [Bot] are registered users. I wonder why that was necessary.

There are 2 ways one can log in under the radar. There is a setting in one's profile. There is also an option when one logs in for the current session only.

P.S.: Can you see me now?

Of the topic icons, red means there are posts you haven't read. Scrolling means it's "popular," by some criteria. A star means you've posted there. Some of the other icons elsewhere you can mouse-over for a pop-up description.

So is there really no way to "forget" a thread? Let's say, for the sake of argument, I'm not interested in a protracted discussion of Garritan balalaika sounds. I would like that not to keep appearing in the list of unread topics.

Don't know about that, but I just noticed something which I think is new. There is a diagonal blue banner across a user's profile on the right of the post that shows that he/she is online. Interesting. Have I just been not seeing this?
