Hello again,

A composer has sent me a file in .musx format, and I have but my old faithful Finale 2008, which does not recognize this format at all. Is there anything I on my end, or the composer on his, can do to bridge the gap? Thanks a lot!

Peter

Ask him to export his file as a MusicXML file (.xml), you could import it (via the File menu). Or install the Dolet plug-in, which imports MusicXML files as well..
Or get the free Notepad, or the demo of Finale 25 to open his file.

He will either need the Finale demo, or actually upgrade as Michel R E suggests. NotePad is still in v. 2012.

I don't think so.

Dolet 6 works with Finale 2009 to 2014.5 on Windows and Finale 2009 to 2014.5 on Intel Macs.
