Gus,

You can't use sounds that you don't have. Finale does not itself have ANY sounds. Since you "dont have a midi keyboard or anything", I suppose that you are using the "Internal Speaker Playback" (Options menu). The sounds you hear must be the QuickTime Instruments in your operating system. And, yes, you don't get a particularly great snare drum sound.

To get decent percussion sounds you have to get an external MIDI instrument/sound module. They come with some percussion sounds, you can buy more sounds for them, and you can create your own sounds.
