I suggest that you add the quarter notes in another layer. It is not necessary to turn off "Check for Extra Notes".

In the lower left corner of the document window there is a pop up menu with the layers.

In the Speedy Entry frame you can cycle through the layers with Shift-DownArrow and with Shift-UpArrow.

Another way of keyboard switching to another layer (works everywhere):
Option-Command-1 switches to Layer 1
Option-Command-2 switches to Layer 2
Option-Command-3 switches to Layer 3
Option-Command-4 switches to Layer 4

You might like to change the settings in the Layer Options dialog box:
Options menu > Document Settings > Layer Options...
I the Layer Options dialog box you can make settings for each of the 4 layers.
