The easiest way is to set up your lyrics (remember that if you want a word to go over more than one note, use the "-" key). Select the area you want rebeamed using the Mass Mover tool and then use the following menu items:

Mass Mover/Rebeam/Rebeam to Lyrics

That will split quavers where they are separate lyrics and leave the beam between them when they for the same word. Dead easy!

This works in Finale 2002 - Don't know which version of Finale it was originally introduced.

ps: How refreshing to be able to type "quavers" instead of "Eighth notes" :o)
