Message:Steve,Finale needs to know, on what beat in the measure the chord should be played. Therefore, chord symbols are usually attached to entries (notes or rests). Here is a way to enter chord symbols independently of the notes: Assuming that the time is 4/4 and that the chord symbols should be on beat 1 and beat 3, 1. Switch to Layer 2. 2. Enter half rests in Layer 2. 3. Attach the chord symbols to the half rests. 4. Hide the half rests with a staff style (in the Alternate Notation dialog box check the option "Show Items Attached to Notes"). Peter
