Message: I suggest that you use the Staff Tool's Alternate Notation feature. This it how the feature works in Finale 2002: 1. Switch to Staff Tool. Double-click the staff. The Staff Attributes dialog box appears. 2. Approximately in the middle of the dialog box there is a check box called "Alternate Notation". Click the button "Select..." below the check box. The Alternate Notation dialog box appears. 3. Click the radio button "Slash Notation". In the bottom of the dialog box there is a pop up menu that allows you to define, in what layer you want the slash notation. Above the popup menu there are some additional options you can select if you want them: * Show Items Attached To Notes * Show Notes In Other Layers * Show Items Attached To Notes In Other Layers * Add Dots To Slashes In Compound Meters 4. Click OK twice to return to the score. You can also create the slash notation as a staff style. A staff style is the way to go if you want the staff to show slashes in some sections and standard notation in other sections. As Brian pointed out: If you created your document from the Default Document there is already a staff style metatool for slash notation in Layer 1 (triggered by the letter S key). Peter
