if you're concerned with scores & part extraction, read this now so
that your next score is ready for revolutionary mechanisms
available within the next 14 days or so ...The idea is to make it as easy as possible :-)
These are the rules:
1. no special tricks in the score.
Don't even think about part extraction when entering the score.
No special preparation will be required.
2. intelligent part extraction -
Staff assignment and voice distribution may vary from one
optimized system to another. Use multiple staves, multiple
layers, 2nd voices, and chords as you like, all in one score.
3. keyword recognition such as "solo", "tutti", "a 2" etc.

A first, comparatively simple Extracted Parts Processor is available now for Windows
(Finale 97-2000). This can already be quite useful.
