Message:Finale 2000 has powerful new barline settings...in order to place a left double barline, just double click on the measure's handle with the measure tool (looks like whole rest) and select "double" from the "left barline" row when the measure attributes dialogue box appears. I have also found it helpful for some jazz writing to change the settings in "Barlines..." under "Options" / "Document Settings" to "default setting is previous measures right barline". Often times, this eliminates the need to go through each measure attribute dialogue box needed to change. Happy engraving!
