Robert,
To create a custom key signature with flats on 'e' and 'a', but not on 'b':
* Click the Key Signature Tool.
* Click the first measure that should have the custom key signature. The Key Signature dialog box appears.
* Set the Measure Region. I suppose you want measure 1 Through End of Piece.
* In the popup menu select Nonstandard. The Nonstandard Key Signature dialog box appears.
* Click the radio button Nonlinear Key Signature. The dialog box will now display a key signature with 7 sharps.
But the first accidental should be a flat on 'e', the next accidental should be a flat on 'a', and the remaining scale steps should be natural. Therefore:
* Click the button AOrdAmt. The Accidental Order and Amount dialog box appears.
Unit 1 means the first accidental. This should be a flat on 'e'.
* Set Step Level to 2.
(since 'c' is predefined as step level 0, 'e' is step level 2)
* Set Amount to -1.
(-1 is flat; natural is 0; sharp is 1)
* Click Next. The dialog box switches to Unit 2. This should be a flat on 'a'.
* Set Step Level to 5.
* Set Amount to -1.
* Click Next. The dialog box switches to Unit 3.
* Set Amount to 0.
* Switch to Units 4 through 7 and set Amount to 0.
* Click OK 3 times to return to the score.
When returning to the score you may find that you want some of the accidentals displayed in another octave.
To display a key signature accidental in another octave:
First you should find the clef number for the clef in which you want to alter the key signature accidental octave.
* Click the Staff Tool.
* Double-click the staff to bring up the Staff Attributes dialog box.
* Under First Clef click Select. The Clef Selection dialog box appears.
The Clef Selection dialog box displays 8 clefs. Finale numbers the clefs as clef 0, clef 1, clef 2 and so on. In other words: the first clef is clef 0, the last clef is clef 7.
Remember the clef number for the clef in which you want to alter the key signature accidental octave. In this example let's say it's clef 3.
* Click Cancel 2 times to return to the score.
* Click the Key Signature Tool and go to the Nonstandard Key Signature dialog box as before.
* Click the button ClefOrd. The Accidental Octave Placement dialog box appears.
* Click the upper Next button 3 times to go to clef 3.
Again, Unit 1 means the first accidental and so on.
* Click the lower Next button to go to the accidental you want to move.
To move an octave down, subtract 1 from the octave number.
To move an octave up, add 1 to the octave number.
* Click OK 3 times to return to the score.
Good luck!
Peter
