This is by no means a "master class," and I'm a PC guy, not Mac, but I found, after several failed sequences AND re-reading the manual (in PDF format) that when you record your sequence, do NOT use the mouse, but rather use keyboard commands, shortcuts, etc. The reason seems to be that QuicKeys records the mouse pointer screen coordinates when you click, and those coordinates are not always the same or valid for a variety of reasons. When I used keyboard commands, almost everything worked!
