Ann,I don't believe that your daughter would qualify for an educational discount unless she is connected with some type of educational institution, although it wouldn't hurt to call Coda sales to find out. However, I would suggest that you give her PrintMusic! from Coda (cost about $70.00). It will probably handle most of her notational needs unless she is planning on writing a symphony or some other large complex work. If she decides that she has outgrown it, she can upgrade her copy of PrintMusic! to Finale on her own for less than than buying Finale outright. In addition, all the work she does with PrintMusic! can be transfered to Finale if she upgrades, plus it is much easier to use.
I purchased PrintMusic! for each of my children and they are using it to write small combos and piano pieces on an almost daily basis. They wanted Finale, but seem quite happy with PrintMusic!. By the way, I write music professionally and use Finale every day, but I keep PrintMusic on my laptop because of its small size and ease of use.
Just a thought.
