Finale is not backward compatible. So F2K1 can't save in F2K file format.

But there is a solution:
Since you only want to open, view and perhaps print your friend's stuff (but not edit it), you can simply download the free application Finale NotePad from Coda's website. Finale NotePad uses the same file format as Finale 2001. Finale NotePad can open ANY Finale document.
But Finale NotePad itself, on the other hand, has only a few, basic options for creating and editing a Finale document.
