Re: stave for transposing instrument
Message:>Where, in Finale, do you set up the staff for a transposing instrument and why? what would be effected if the part is transposed with the Mass Mover tool?Hello Jenny, Where: Staff Tool > Double-click the staff to open the Staff Attributes dialog box. Check "Transposition" and click the "Select..." button next to that checkbox. You can have the staff in a transposed key signature (click the radio button "Key Signature") or you can display the notes in the "neutral key" = no key signature (click the radio button "Chromatic"). Both ways ("Key Signature" and "Chromatic") will play back correctly. Read the documentation for further details. When you return to your score by (clicking OK twice) you might like to turn on Options menu > Display in Concert Pitch while entering the music. You can turn it off, when you are done, and voila! - the staff is transposed to the correct transposition. (NB: If you use the "Chromatic" setting and enter chords in that staff, then the chords will not be transposed correctly.) Why: To get correct playback. You won't get correct playback, if you transpose the part with the Mass Mover Tool. Peter
