Re: How to get swing 16ths?
Message:1. Tempo Tool. Click the first measure. The Tempo Adjustment dialog box appears. 2. Set the measure region that you want played with swing 16ths. 3. Click the button "Set Swing...". The Set Swing Ratio dialog box appears. 4. Type the percentage you want for the swing ratio. A percentage of 100 means no swing at all: even notes - [1/2 + 1/2]. A percentage of 200 means triplet feel: [2/3 + 1/3]. To get a more even swing, type a lower percentage. To get e. g. [3/5 + 2/5], type a percentage of 150. 4. Click the button "Duration...". The Set Duration dialog box appears. 5. Click the 16th symbol. Click OK 3 times to return to the score....and don't forget to add the expression that plays Tempo Tool changes, in case you want to export as a MIDI file. Tech note: The Tempo Tool creates the swing effect by playing the first note at a slower tempo, whereas the second note is unchanged in tempo. This means that the overall tempo will drop. An example: Let's say that the tempo at first was 60 for the quarter. Thus 1 quarter lasts 1 second. With a swing percentage of 200 the quarter will last (200/100 * 1/2 + 1/2) seconds = 1.5 seconds. Thus you will end up with an overall tempo of 40 for the quarter. To end up with a tempo of 60 for the quarter, begin with a tempo of 90 for the quarter, and add a swing percentage of 200. Here is the general formula: To end up with an overall tempo of 't' and a swing percentage of 'p', the first tempo 'x' should be x = pt/200 + t/2 Peter
