Using the Mass Mover tool, select the measure you want to change. Next, open the Special Tools palette. In the Special Tools pull-down menu, be sure "Show Handles" is checked. Then in the Special Tools palette, click on the Stem Length tool (the one that looks like a quarter note with a vertical arrow in place of the stem). Next go to the measure you selected in the score, and drag the handle of the note you want to change (if you hold down the Shift key as you drag, the stem will be perfectly vertical.
