I had a request the other day to copy and transpose some orchestra parts say from clarinet in C to clarinet in Bb. I tried to use a current scanning program to read the parts in to my computer, generate a midi files and then read that midi file into Finale. I spent two or three days playing around and finally came to the conclusion that it was easier to key the scores into Finale directly than to use the scanning program. One of the problems is the poor accuracy of the scanner program, and the second was that I had to make corrections to the score while I was still in the scanning program. These corrections were laborious. My point to Finale designers is that whatever corrections that are required on a score that has been scanned and then transfered to Finale must be accomplished after the score has been transfered to Finale.

I was designing optical character readers 30 years ago and the problems of mis-reads and un-readable characters has not changed. They exist and Finale must design a system to handle them expediently
