Oh how right you are! I had the same problem when I wanted to insert an instruction for a clarinettist to change from the A instrument to the B-flat instrument - I wanted to embed a flat sign within a staff expression, which of course you can't do either. (There used to be a similar problem with Staff Names and Staff-Group Names, but that has now been remedied.)

One solution is to use a measure-assigned Text Expression, which will allow you to mix fonts and styles.
