Re: how to stop Finale from duplicating shapes

Caution:
If you need to save a library of shape expressions, then in the Save Library dialog you must select, not only Shape Expressions, but also Shapes.
If you select only Shape Expressions, then the library will not contain the shapes used in the shape expressions.

Re: Scaling text point size?

The actual size also depends on the Page Scaling percentage, and on the Staff Scaling percentage. If - and only if - they are 100 %, then only the System Scaling is at play, and your calculation is correct. By The Way: From your post it sounds like you are looking at a printed page, not the computer...

Re: Replacing rests with notes

Okay, regarding the "replacing rests" issue, I thought I'd attached the file; apparently not. Apologies. The issue is that I'll have a busy measure full of notes and if I want to edit the bar without completely redoing it, I can't just "punch in" that one spot. As someone mentioned, it's not "pen a...

Re: Replacing rests with notes

… what I need to do (all the time) is change a rest into a series of notes, not just one. It's no problem replacing, say, a quarter rest, with a quarter note. But replacing the rest with 4 sixteenths or similar, immediately any notes to the right join in immediately; they DON'T MAINTAIN THEIR POSIT...

Thank you Peter. I followed your steps, but it doesn't work, see the attached with both scores. Perhaps my explanation was not clear enough. Re: Articulation Tool

A simple solution: In the score with the “perfect” articulations, add an extra measure. You can delete this measure when you are done. In the extra measure, enter a note, and attach the two “perfect” articulations to the note. Selection Tool. Select the extra measure, and Copy it. Open the other sco...

Re: Alternate Rhythmic Placements

Try this notation of the rhythm.

It is the same rhythm as in your example, just notated differently.

I would count it in 8/8 - rather than in 4/4.

When you count in 8ths, the 8th triplets get poly-rhythmic:
3 triplet notes against 2 (8th) beats.

Re: Alternative key signature

Perhaps it is better with shapes created in the Shape Designer. With the Shape Designer you have full control over the symbol’s layout: line thickness, line length, line position, &c. This is crucial if you need to reproduce a published layout. With a font character you do not have that control; you...

I have not seen those glyphs in any font.

However, the shapes are quite simple; they can be created in the Shape Designer.

Re: Using alt-9 to set tuplets/sextuplets/anything-lets

In the Simple Entry Tool there is a sub-tool called Repitch.
It lets you repitch notes without changing their duration.

Very convenient when you have copied a gazillion triplets.

bj nick, No need to enter a new triplet in this case. This works for me: Selection Tool. Drag-select the second beat (begin outside the staff). Copy (Edit menu). Drag-select (only) the third beat (begin outside the staff). Paste (Edit menu). Now the triplet from beat 2 has been copied to beat 3. You...

You could use normal noteheads, and add the x as a shape expression. In the Shape Designer you can create an x shape with the line thickness you need. However, have you considered the readability? Your attached image shows {circle notehead} with an x, and {oval notehead} with an x. The {circle noteh...
