Re: Change flag on a note-by-note basis
Hi, Is it possible to change the flag of a single note, without changing its value (rhythm)? So, I could have a quarter note with a double flag, if I wanted to. This is for F27.1. Thanks. Two ideas: 1) Enter the note as a {not displaying tuplet}. To make a quarter note display as a sixteenth, enter...

Re: Smart shape
It is indeed a mystery why the sub-tools Rectangle Tool and Ellipse Tool are not available when you design a custom arrowhead.
My guess is that you will have to ask the folks in MakeMusic’s Tech Support.

Re: Quarter tone accidentals
Finale does seem to have the capability to create custom key signatures (though the interface seems typical byzantine). Would this not be the best way? … I made the attached Finale document years ago. In this document there is a custom quarter tone key signature. You can enter all the quarter tone ...

Re: Quarter tone accidentals
… I open a default document. I enter a note. How do I add the symbol for a quarter tone lower? If I understand you correctly, you just need a single quarter tone flat accidental (only layout, no playback) in a document that everywhere else uses the ordinary half tone accidentals (= flat and sharp)....

Re: Half tone accidentals
finalizer, Your thread title is “Half tone accidentals”. Your attached graphic shows quarter tone accidentals. You are asking “Where are they?” If I understand you correctly, you can only find the quarter tone accidentals (which you have found, and shown in the graphic) - but not the ordinary half t...

Re: Speedy Entry with MIDI Keyboard - What if I can't play the chord with my left hand?
Yes, my caps lock works. But maybe, as you suggest, Finale just doesn't recognize it. When such problems happen, the usual steps you should try, are: - quit Finale, and launch it again, - re-boot the computer, - re-set Finale’s Preferences. There is a {Reset All Preferences} button in the Preferenc...

Re: Speedy Entry with MIDI Keyboard - What if I can't play the chord with my left hand?
… it doesn't seem to work with Speedy Entry, because as soon as you press a value, a rest appears on the staff … It sounds like you forgot the Caps Lock. What you describe, is how Speedy works without Caps Lock. Without the Caps Lock the MIDI keyboard keys must be held down when you press a rhythmi...

Re: diminished 7th chord with a major 7th added
I suspect that our colleague doesn't want an A in the chord. On one hand, ReReDouble linked to a Wikipedia page where the chord is without the ‘a’: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diminished_major_seventh_chord On The Other Hand, It's B over Cdim - but the software won't even let add anything under a...

Re: diminished 7th chord with a major 7th added
Correcting myself:
B/C is a nice sounding chord, but it misses the chord tone ‘a’.
To include the ‘a’, write the chord symbol as B7/C (easy to read).

Re: chromatic transpose shortcut
If I understand you correctly, you are talking about transposing the music by some interval - without changing the key signature - right? The keyboard shortcuts for transposition are user programmable. There are four trigger keys (giving you a total of four programmable transpositions), namely the n...

I am not sure what you need, exactly, by your word ‘larger’ . Perhaps you need an increased fretboard width (but keep the same fretboard height)? To do so: Chord Tool. Handles appear on the chord symbols. Context-click a chord handle. In the context menu, choose {Edit Chord Definition…}. You get to ...

Re: MUSX "Invalid File Type" in Finale 2012
Finale 2012 uses the older “legacy” .mus file format. A change of the file name extension from .musx to .mus does not change the file format. Instead, open the Finale document in v27, and Export to the Finale 2012 format: File menu > Export > Finale 2012… Then, v27 will create a new Finale document ...

It is a bit time consuming, but it can be done. In the Shape Designer, enter the natural, and add a rectangle. Select the rectangle (via the Shape Designer’s sub-tool Selection Tool), give it zero Line Thickness, fill it with White, and Send it to the Back - so that it is behind the natural. The rec...

I would
- clear that very line from the score,
- use the sub-tool Custom Line Tool, to create a custom line for just that occurrence.

Re: Partially hiding ties so they don't go through notes
Two ideas:
1) Edit ties, by flipping or flattening.
2) Use the so called Ravel Ties: a short tie after one note and a short tie before the note it's tied to, to keep space open for other notes and avoid clashes.

Ties are allowed to go through vertical lines, such as barlines, stems, accidentals.
You should avoid letting ties go through noteheads, though.

There seems to be disagreement about that very question. Quoting an old forum post from ten years ago, posted by forum user Epilogue: … When ...
