Re: Fermata doesn't seem to be working
I wonder if this is related. The tempo mark in Playback Controls has no effect. I had a marking on the top of the score, "Allegretto, (dotted quarter) = 40". I wondered if this was overriding every other attempt to control the tempo. So I deleted it and replaced it with simply "Allegretto". Same res...

Fermata doesn't seem to be working
This image shows the measure I'm trying to alter. https://imgur.com/gallery/qgZnVTq OK, I don't know why that isn't working. This is the rhythm of the (6/8) measure: ♩ ♪♪♪♪ What I'd like is to have a long hold on the first quarter note of the measure. What I'm getting is that it plays the whole meas...

Re: How to turn on/off one part
I never heard of that, but that gave me the clue to look at ARIA player. I found Instrument 2 assigned to Steinway Piano and Instrument 1 assigned to nothing. When I set it to Steinway Piano, the sounds work. I hear both pianos. I don't really understand what I just did, I don't think this is someth...

How to turn on/off one part
I have a two-piano score and I'm only hearing one piano. Here's the thing: I probably did that to myself, and I can't remember what I did if anything. I intend to use this for practicing, with Finale playback only playing the Piano 2 part and myself playing the Piano 1 part live. But while editing i...

Re: Adding percussion sounds
Woodblock and Slapstick are both working well, and I think I know what to do if I require another percussion sound that isn't already loaded. I want to thank zuill and Peter for walking me through this and getting these bizarre problems sorted out. One last comment: Finale is a wonderful product and...

Re: Adding percussion sounds
Instead of editing an existing Percussion Layout you could duplicate an existing Percussion Layout, and then re-name and edit the duplicate Percussion Layout. In that way the original Percussion layout (which you duplicated) will remain unharmed. So far as I know, that's what I did. I made no chang...

Re: Adding percussion sounds
Yes! I'm not sure what that "Reassign Playback Sounds" does, but it did the trick. What is the right way to do the simple things I wanted to do? - Delete instruments I don't need from a percussion layout. Did my trying to delete them somehow remove them everywhere? - Add instruments from other layou...

Re: Adding percussion sounds
Thank you for the detailed response. I'm actually most comfortable doing this kind of thing from the Terminal window as I am a long time Unix user. I found that "Percussion Layouts.lib" and "Garritan Instruments for Finale.xml" had newer dates than the other files and so I restored the original vers...

Yes. I didn't know you could expand the display that way and see the layers. I see 4 layers, one of which has Brush Drum Kit and the others have Basic Orch. Perc.

Re: Adding percussion sounds
Yes that's clear. But what can I do about it? I feel like we're going around in circles. You're telling me my setup is broken, I'm agreeing with you. Now what? Do I give up? Is Finale now broken for me permanently?

Re: Adding percussion sounds
To the best of my knowledge I have not modified any existing maps. I copied Orchestra Percussion to make my own map, and I have certainly never even opened Brush Kit. Just to be safe, is there a way to restore the default layouts? I know I didn't delete the woodblock sound, since I told you if I cha...

Re: Adding percussion sounds
Oh, by "layers" you just meant the layers you can use to enter notes in the score. I use that a lot, but it has no effect on percussion. I thought you were describing a feature of MIDI, that perhaps there was something called a MIDI layer where you could add one layout to another layout. The answer ...

Re: Adding percussion sounds
But another thing I tried was to go back to the original Percussion layout, which has dozens of instruments listed including a Woodblock. If I pick that, I can use the up and down arrows to scroll through all those instruments and I see the woodblock. (Edit: What I mean by that is that I can add a n...

Re: Adding percussion sounds
Mac OSX Big Sur 11.1 Finale Version 26.3.1.643 Here is an example of one of the things I tried. I am doing all this through the Score Manager. Sorry about the blurriness, I had to compress these because the original screen shots were too large and it wouldn't let me attach. I duplicated the Percussi...

Re: Adding percussion sounds
That's not a problem because I only need it to play on this machine. I'm creating the orchestra part for a piano and orchestra piece, and Finale's playback capabilities are great for giving me an orchestra I can control while learning. :) If you have a sample file we can examine, we might be able to...

Adding percussion sounds
I'm transcribing an orchestra piece and learning more than I ever wanted to know about percussion and MIDI but I have reached a brick wall. I was trying to learn just enough about how Finale handles percussion playback to get the job done, but I think I just don't understand enough. I have one part ...

Re: Getting Playback control to override tempo
OK, I tried deleting the "Allegro" mark, which apparently carries its own tempo with it (120). That resolved the issue in that I can now control playback tempo with the playback controls. But I wanted to retain the markings so I can remember what the full tempo is supposed to be. I guess I can write...

Re: Getting Playback control to override tempo
What does that mean exactly? I tried setting MIDI/Audio ->Human Playback to None but that had no effect.I'm afraid all you can do is turn off the playback effect in your expressions while you learn.

Getting Playback control to override tempo
Apologies if this is an old question, but I can't find a posting with my exact issue. I am creating an accompaniment part which I'd like to use for practice. I'd like to be able to vary the tempo, to start it out slowly as I am learning my part, and then gradually increase it. It seems like the Temp...

Number of staffs per page
I'm creating piano music. When I started I had 5 double-staffs (treble + bass) per page. At some point in the middle of the piece it changed to 4 with a large white space at the bottom. I just opened up a new piece and it too has 4 staffs per page.

Command for changing beam?
I was trying to do something very simple, connect a note to the beam of the previous notes. I should have been able to do this with a backslash or a ...

Can PrintMusic change meter in the middle of a piece?
I currently have Notepad and am looking to make an upgrade. I think PrintMusic is what I want, but this is the #1 feature I'm looking for. It isn't mentioned on the product comparison site, so I'm not sure it's in any product. I'm really hoping that PrintMusic lets you do this. I have a piece that s...
