Thanks for sharing this story ernesto, it's helpful. So from what you're saying, it sounds like a PrintMusic file can be worked on in Garritan, as long as it's in MIDI form. Question : what exactly was it about his Garritan version of your piece that you didn't like? Was it the sounds of the instrum...

Thanks Warren, I appreciate the info. It looks like it's going to be PrintMusic then, until I can afford Finale. By the way, I notice you use Garritan Personal Orchestra--do you happen to know if that programs works with PrintMusic? I know it works for Finale, and the VST capability of PM makes me t...

Demo version of Allegro? And why no VST?
It seems like all versions of Finale have demo versions you can try out, except Allegro. Is that accurate, or am I just missing it somewhere?
Also: does anyone know why Finale and PrintMusic support VST/AU instruments and effects, but Allegro doesn't?
Thanks.

Will Garritan Personal Orchestra work with PrintMusic?
I know Finale integrates with Garritan--does this go for PrintMusic as well?
I'm hoping to compose in PM, and then feed the composition into Garritan Personal Orchestra, to get more realistic instrument sounds.
Is this possible?

Why does the Horn sound different when inputting/playing?
When plotting Horn notes on the staff, they play one pitch; but when playing them back, those same notes play a pitch several steps different.
Why is this?

Thanks for explaining, Warren. I see what you're saying, and you make some good points. If improving the sound of the instruments would make the product prohibitively expensive, then I withdraw the suggestion--because frankly, I consider Finale too expensive as it is, and I'm very much on board with...

Synful costs $495, and all it does for you is create sounds that you must use some other method to get to create your notes. Finale gives you the finest, most-used, notation system in the world for a few hundred dollars more and it sounds pretty damn good the way that it comes. Do you want to pay $...

Can you make the instruments sound more realistic?
I love Finale, and I'm so excited that this technology now exists: it has brought composing into the realm of possibility for many of us who might not otherwise have been able to actualize our musical dreams. Thank you, Finale people! The only thing I would like to see improved about Finale is to ma...

Just in case anyone else encounters this problem, I believe I've figured out what caused it. The instruments were all set to "String Ensemble" in the Instrument List, which apparently put too much of a load on the sound card, causing crackling and volume inconsistencies. I solved the problem by taki...

Why do strings sound two different ways?
I copied and pasted an existing composition into a new score, and the sound of the cellos changed: instead of the full, symphonic sound I had in the first score, now they sound like more like chamber music.
What caused this, and how can I change it back?

Volume problems
Why, during playback, does the volume drop during certain parts of the piece, and then rise back up again?
Is it because it's so "busy" in those sections, and the computer speaker can't handle it?
Is there a way to ensure volume consistency throughout the playback?

How do you place ties on all notes at once?
Is there a way to put ties (or slurs) on an entire measure full of notes? Tie them all together with one action (rather than going through and doing it individually, note by note)?
Thanks.
Thanks.

How do you add extra parts?
I apologize for (yet ano)the(r) basic question--I'm currently trying to locate the answer in the User's Manual--but can someone kindly tell me how to add extra parts to an existing score? I originally planned for three cellos in this piece, but now I realize I will need many more strings than that. ...

Isn't there a simple rest icon somewhere, as in other versions of Finale? Something you just click on, and it appears in the staff? This multiple-step approach to creating rests, with corresponding numbers and clicking clear to transform it, etc. seems awfully complicated. With the number of rests i...

Is there a Finale classical composers community?
I'm wondering if there's a community somewhere, made up of classical composers who use Finale as their medium? These Finale boards seem geared toward helping people figure out how the products work; but is there a group of composers somewhere, who use Finale, and discuss the different aspects of lif...
