Re: What's stopping you from upgrading to F25?
if you are a jazz musician or use finale for writing jazz instructional methods as I do, I literally cannot find a single compelling reason to upgrade. 64 bit and claims of the ability to more efficiently add new features are a strawman claim. Those are engineering technical debt, not end-user featu...

Re: Finale 25 vs 2014.5
You're missing my point. If you have to take your hand off the keyboard, it's a #fail. I know how to use the selection tool and hit the down arrow. Point being that you then have to click on the mouse to get back to editing. It's a ridiculous paradigm. You should be able to get to any functionality ...

Re: Finale 25 vs 2014.5
Finale should look at Adobe's UI model in terms of getting work done. You never have to touch the mouse in photoshop. All tools have accelerator keys to allow you to seamlessly go from one tool to another and there are intelligent defaults. For example, I shouldn't have to switch to the measure tool...

Re: Finale 25 vs 2014.5
not so sure about the bug fix thing. Almost everytime I've reported an issue, finale support says they can't reproduce. they force me to use screen capture software to prove what I'm seeing. Not sure I want to invest more money in a platform that is not supported well and doesn't listen to the custo...

Finale 25 vs 2014.5
For someone like myself who writes jazz charts and guitar exercises for books, is there any compelling reason to upgrade? Any improvement in note input in speedy , simple or hyperscribe? Any better UI in terms of less modality allowing you to use completely drive the UI through the keyboard without ...

that's exactly what I said I wanted to avoid in my original posting!motet wrote:Enter the first eighth note or whatever it is, then press Alt-Keypad9 (or Mac equivalent) and pick 5 in the space of 4 (or whatever you're seeking) and you've got it beat.

Shortcut for entering (quin)tuplets in simple edit?
In Finale 2014.5, I can't find any docs on for anything other than triplets unless a dialog box is involved. Is there no way to enter tuplets other than triplets without resort to a popup dialog? Why can't I use something similar to the workflow in speedy edit? To make matters worse, the input field...

where is finale 26?!?
I never upgraded to finale 25 from 2014.5 because none of the features were compelling and I didn't think refactoring the software was a legitimate end-customer feature. However, one of the big selling points of the refactoring and conversion to 64 bit was supposedly the ease of doing future updates...

Re: Adding articulations on multiple layers?
… Looks like this won't work either because of a bug in JW Change. It seems that even when you select the layer you want snap applied to, it applies it to all layers anyway! Just to make things clear: Your words “select the layer you want snap applied to” mean that you - in the Document menu - sele...

Re: Adding articulations on multiple layers?
I actually do need separate layers because i'm using JW Change to snap to an alignment point. Each layer has a ton of articulations that I want to snap to a position slightly above the previous layer's articulations. If everything is on the same layer, the snap will align the multiple vertical artic...

Re: Adding articulations on multiple layers?
i already tried that. I activated a new layer and it wouldn't allow me to add articulations to it. I even copied and pasted the music from the first layer onto the 2nd layer but it wouldn't allow me to edit the articulations. Perhaps the copy/paste is not working between layers? Just to be clear, I ...

Adding articulations on multiple layers?
Is there any way to do this? I am writing a guitar book and wanted to indicate multiple picking articulations on separate layers so essentially one note might have 3 articulations vertically stacked on top of each other.

Re: Instructional book in finale? (best practices?)
The workflow you describe is exactly what I do. I export in PDF, import into a graphic frame in indesign and yes, I have master pages and styles setup but it's still painful to go back into finale and correct mistakes, have to re-export and then re-import back into indesign. Ultimately, I don't thin...

Re: Bulk articulation alignment?
If I create the guide after I open the jwchange and then snap to guide, it'll change 1 articulation out of about 4 measures worth (20+) articulations.
See the one "m" which got changed? It left everything else. Am I doing something wrong?

Instructional book in finale? (best practices?)
I have a couple instructional books (sheets of sound for guitar) that I have written in finale and using adobe indesign for the layout. I would love it if I could do the whole thing in finale since indesign is a pain in the !@#$ to work with. Any best practices for doing this? How have folks found f...
