Re: Chords
The original question was whether the plus sign + could replace the word "add" in a chord symbol, wasn't it? Or have I been misunderstanding this from the get-go? (and hats off to the person who read my comment about A(add 2) = A, B, C#, E, and corrected it that A(add 2) = A, B, C#, E)

Re: Chords
There are two issues. One is saying what you mean, and the other is preventing players from misinterpreting what you mean. Many of us see a 9 and assume all lower chord tones are present. A(add 9) is often used to mean A B C# E with no G or G# included; I'd go with A(add 2) in this circumstance, but...

Re: Trouble opening templates from 2012
Templates should have .ftm suffixes, no? Or .ftmx? So if you're trying to "Open Template" and clicking on a .mus file ... ?

Re: Chord Spacing
Something I've been wondering about: Is there a difference between, say, C7/E and
C7
E
? When I have this situation, I'll do C7_E to create the stacked chord (is that what you meant by "subtext"?), but do some players read that differently? If so, what's the other interpretation?

Re: I mean, really. A rant about chords
Some of us would think of that first chord as Ab dim .... (preceded by F/A?)

Re: Cues with lyrics but no notes showing
I fear I'm misunderstanding the situation, as it seems Text Block is the quickest solution. Added post-layout, easy enough to position them to make the words appear to be on the correct beats, if that's desired.

If it *is* a Word Extension, it was probably the result of a Layer change on a previous page. Quickest fix is usually to adjust a Measure Attribute to block Word Extensions.

Re: Looking for an authoritative resource to settle a disput
For a second, I considered suggesting that if he won't take your word for it, then he should just ask 20 other music people at random. That's a flawed plan, though, if any of those 20 people are his past or present students.

Re: Enlarge Sharps and Flats
Changing the size in Document Settings does not affect anything in chord symbols already created, but only in the ones created after the change.

Zuill, I love you, but unless you're inviting me to move in with you and use your rig from now on, I'm afraid that's not a helpful response.

key change oddity
Inputting a melody in Eb which contains some F#s. Second chorus, same thing but in E, so copied and changed via Key Sig tool. Default Spelling checked. Am I the last person to discover some long-standing bug that caused the F#s to become Abbs instead of Fxs? (Finale 25 Windows)

... but I almost never use Finale for anything other than notation. A client wants a karaoke-type track, simple piano accompaniment. I played with Hyperscribe and Export to MIDI, and I'm mostly okay, but I want to hear the metronome, and there's something weird. If I set Click and Countoff / Metrono...

Another trick: Reboot, and try again immediately, before launching any other programs.

Alternating underscores and hard spaces for low baselines, or perhaps setting Maximum Space Between Hyphens (doc options, Lyrics) to something very small?

Noting this counterintuitive method for the next time (my first instinct about backspace is to remove a thing, not to remove an adjustment to a thing). Thanks.

Re: word extensions hiccup
Finally got a minute to repair the damage. Unchecked the Break Word Extensions in those measures, and then tried to use the Update tool under Utilities, but nothing happened (with or without highlighting the measures). Instead, I went into Document Options, turned Smart W.E. off and on again (apply,...

Re: word extensions hiccup
Glad to know about that Utilities option that I never noticed, but it had no effect (variables: whole document, selecting specific measures, removing the manually altered extensions and letting the utility do it from scratch, but it didn't). Copied the section into the attached. What might look like...

word extensions hiccup
Piano/vocal piece created in F2011, opened in F25.4 (2011 is not installed on my current machine). Edited the vocal line to hold some notes a couple of measures longer, but the Word Extensions didn't extend automatically. The two places I need to do this extend over system breaks; when I went into S...

20 years in, and I still use Voices very rarely. It wreaks havoc with Type (lyrics) Into Score, and somehow never puts the stem directions the way I want them on its own.

Nearly. 5. Click NEXT to activate each additional element in the suffix to be able to adjust its position.
6. Adjust its position.
7. Repeat 5. and 6. until done.

Finale Follies of 25
This is a solved problem, but I'm curious about the cause. Setting up 25.3, I built a new default template and loaded my trusty old Chord Suffix Library (which dates from 1999). Working on the first lead sheet, I entered a chord and saw that the suffix font was wrong. Looking under the hood, I disco...

No way to do that other than opening each one individually, right? Might that be added? Thanks.
