Re: My choice
I downloaded MuseScore after finding out that the original place I went to wanted to charge $12/month; I found the free site (.org) rather than the site where Google sent me (.com). I'll give this a try. I do like Audacity and have used it for years. I also downloaded the $149 crossgrade from Dorico...

Re: Dorico Pro 5
As a former software developer and maintainer (and consultant and user), I find Dorico much harder to understand than any of Finale, Sibelius, Igor, Noteworthy Composers, and others. I always made interfaces and help packages to do what the consumer desired. I have done massive rewrites to adjust to...

Re: my experience with Dorico so far if it helps!
The crossgrade price was about that of an upgrade to Finale, et. al. I've been trying to enter a simple tango for piano and a simple bolero for clarinet, piano, bull fiddle, bongos, and congas; it has gone slowly. I discovered that one cannot playback for the left-hand measure; I'm still trying to f...

Re: Is Dorico the answer?
I did install the Dorico 5 upgrade (the $149); it took quite a while to install it on a desktop. I haven't been label to enter anything yet. I found out that I could also install it on a laptop; it took over an hour to get Steinberg's site to stop trying to install Dorico SE (whatever this is.) It's...

Re: Baroque Trumpet Soundfonts
I needed some baroque-sounding stuff for a ringtone. I added a trumpet and a clarinet in unison to a horn in high register. It wasn't exact, but many of the notes were played open on a modern horn so some of the ambiance came through. I haven't tried the jazz trumpet or the cornets in combination. T...

Re: Baroque Trumpet sounds
I have the jabb3, PO4, PO5, COMV2 and WI. No baroque trumpets. I have several suggestions. First, the easy way is to use one of the included solo trumpets and use Baroque articulations. I don't think any mutes work. Second, try playing another instrument in combination (like unison or octave above) ...

Re: Lyrics Tool type into score and click assignment stopped working
I know that most "modern" computer programs (windows, mac stuff, linux, finale, word, ...) tend to leak memory. As time goes by, the memory fills up with holes that are too small to get used. This shouldn't happen but with many people working on the same program, things are overlooked. It's probably...

Re: PDFs in 27.4
Finale 27.4.1 is now available. I just installed it. I haven't needed any of the fail modes but I'll post if something else went wrong. (The announcement popped up while I was editing an arpeggio.)

Re: Finale 27.4 is here
Everything went fine for me. No problems on the two computers. Later, the HP Omen Desktop decided to update the Bios (twice.) Afterwards, Finale couldn't play nor could Chrome update. A restart of the entire computer fixed all that. As I have been criticizing most commercial (and academically taught...

Re: Version 27.4 coming
I have the email from Make Music saying Finale 27.4 is available. It's not there from the Finale program updater not can I find it on their site. I assume it will sho up. I always keep up to date. I am an amateur with no income generated from Finale so I can try new stuff and find out errors in the ...

Re: triplets with quarter notes
Works for me. There must be something else going on. I am using 27.3 on Win 11. Your example didn't show a time signature though. I was entering into an empty measure in 4/4.
Re: dot dot
I was in Simple Entry. I don't know what the OP was doing. (I haven't learned other ways, yet.)
Re: dot dot
I think one just uses a period on a selected note to get the first dot, then a second period to get the second. I tried it and could add 9 dots.

Re: Playback not working
I don't remember the solution but I got this quite a bit a few years ago. It's probably on one of my earlier posts. I think the problem was in either one of the choices for the computer's sound generator (most have 2 or more) or in the settings in MIDI/AUDIO in FInale. It may have been both. I do re...

Re: a music app for writing music by hand
I did use Maestro but I couldn't get it to work the way I wanted. I decided to buy "Music Writer" for Android. It's about $15 per year (I think) and it's not too bad The only thing both miss (or I haven't found yet) is the capability to edit within a measure, particularly the first few beats. I tend...

Re: What monitors are you using for Finale?
I use a matched pair of HP V28 4K monitors that were on sale (2 for 1, thus the matched pair) a few years ago. They have multiple resolutions. I also use an HP Omen gaming desktop (without desktop video or mouse or the like, just big memory, fast i9 CPU, and big fast hard disks.) It's worth looking ...

There needs to be much more context. What was the previous measure? What is the time signature? What is the clef?

Re: Da capo al fine does not play as intended
I have never seen a "fine" inside a first (or second) repeat. The alignment may not be read as intended by the program; the word "fine" is longer (in print) than a quarter note. Perhaps the first repeat command is interpreted wrongly as the fine command may not be seen. (I don't know if this makes s...

Re: Getting .midi extension from Windows Finale
One can use either Windows Explorer or the DOS Window to change the name of the file after it's created. If it's not the content of the file, this is a quick fix.

Re: Purchase of Finale upgrade to 27 from 26
I do a bit of traveling and generally found that credit cards (not debit cards) have a better exchange rate (both directions) than most stores. I think banks mostly exchange large amounts and try to time exchanges in both directions. This is not always the case. Argentina is an exception.

Re: Playback from Leftmost measure plays the line above
There is a "Playback Settings" in the tools in the tools menu. It has a gear-shaped icon. Clicking on that brings up the playback menu. There are several choices for starting playback including "Leftmost Measure."

Re: Scrolling through the score with Keyboard Shortcuts
I usually cheat by using the <CTL> <arrow> to jump to the first note (or rest) of the same or adjacent measure. It doesn't work on blank measures, but I don't scroll through blanks much. I don't know if this works in Speedy Entry.

Re: 27.3 released
I got the update notice last night. It usually takes about 2-3 hours to download the files. ATT has promised for 15 years to upgrade. Finally (for Finale), last year they put fiber in the area. It took 15 seconds to download and about 1 minute to install. (I did acquire a couple of very fast gaming ...

I've had this a few times. In my case, I had used the Score Manager to make those instruments Solo or to Mute the others.
