Re: Trumpet parts in D

Thank you very much for your help. I found it easier to create a new blank score with the instruments and voices assigned, then I used the cascade option to open the original, select all, copy and paste into new score. To my delight everything worked nearly perfectly. The sound is correct. Trumpets ...

Re: Trumpet parts in D

Just noticed someting new in Finale 2012. Trumpets can be specified as B flat, C, or D in set-up. There seems to be no way to remake my parts in the current score. The notes that sound are all in concert pitch. If I want to write a C which sounds as D I can't do it unless I start fresh with new manu...

Re: Trumpet parts in D

Thank you very much but I'm not sure I understand your example. The pitches are right but natrual trumpets cannot play an E flat. I'm trying to provide a small portion of the score so you can see my problem. It's a zip file. In order to make it sound right I had to compromise. The trumpet parts are ...

Instrument ranges? Who decides?

I've noticed over the past year or two that some of the instrument ranges in Finale have unconventional range limits. Certain instruments regularly play well out of the range limits imposed in Finale.

Re: Trumpet parts in D

Yes, I'm using Finale 2011. Three flats would never be written for natural trumpets (ones without valves) - it is a historical practice. Trumpet students are taught to transpose music as they play in orchestras. Rarely does a composer write for a B flat trumpet. In most orchestra music the parts are...

Re: Trumpet parts in D

Trumpet parts in this kind of music always display in C - no accidentals. If the key is d minor, they still show no accidentals but concert D displays as C. B flat trumpet parts are always off by a whole step...a b flat is displayed as a C. If the trumpet part was in F, no accidentals and F displays...

Trumpet parts in D

Why does Finale put trumpets in D showing two sharps? Any trumpet player will tell you this instrument is always written with no sharps or flats but sounds one step higher than written. I'm currently arranging a piece which includes trumpets in D and Horns in F. The Horns display correctly but the t...

Will Finale ever "sing"?

Is there any MIDI that can sing words in vocal music set in Finale? EWQL Symphonic Choirs is for electrical engineers, not musicians...and it doesn't work anyway.

Re: Finale 2011 One file crashes when I try to print

What I ended up doing was open a second window of Finale - a cascade as Finale puts it. I copied everything from the original and pasted it into a blank of the same set-up. It works now.

Finale 2011 One file crashes when I try to print

Hello - This time I honestly need some technical help. I don't know what causes the problem. I just input a score. I tried to print and immediately I get the error message: "We're sorry, but Finale has encountered an error and needs to close. Please click OK for the option to save your file before F...

Multimeasure rests tool not working correctly

I posted on the General forum, now I'm going for the big guns. I'm having some very frustrating issues with the multimeasure rests tool. After extracting parts I find the multimeasure rests tool doesn't always create multimeasure rests. For example, the first page or two of a part successfully combi...

Yes, the cursor moves and works normally with everything except Finale.

I'm sure MIDI input is not engaged.

I NEED HELP

Finale 2011, XP home edition All of a sudden I cannot alter any of my scores at all! The cursor appears in light grey instead of black. I've tried un-installing Finale and re-installing it. I've tried disc cleanup and de-fragment. I've tried turning the PC off and back on. I even tried going back a ...

Change the tuning? You mean, have the instruments play a different pitch? It would be best if they played concert pitch.

I'm using Kontakt2 at this time.

The problem note in the oboe is a high "g" in a piece written between 1772 and 1846.

Is it possible to extend instrument ranges?

I'm coming up against a problem I didn't expect with Finale. Some of the music I'm working with calls for notes just out of the range playable in Finale. Is it possible to extened upward the range of any instruments? At the moment I'm thinking about oboe but I've come across the same issue with trom...

The modern instrument I play (Bach Strad C-trumpet) has such a bell, so I am familiar with the terminology. There are two issues with the timbre of natural trumpets. 1) because the tubing length of a natural trumpet is about twice that of a modern trumpet there are many more audible overtones in the...

I really wish this forum would explain what "spam words" are so I could avoid them and not have to re-compose my messages over and over! I am trying out Finale 2010. It's fantastic and I hope to upgrade soon. I need help assigning instrument placement in a realistic manner. For example, how do I put...

Added staves gave strange unpredictable playback

I know just enough to be dangerous. I posted this under general but because much of the issue involves MIDI results I duplicated it here. I hope this doesn't cause trouble. Recently I tried adding a staff or two. The new staff always appears above the one I pick for the addition - never below. While...

Amplitude, not velocity, in Finale 2007c?

I have a problem with output (gain) with my Finale 2007c. I'm using a PC with Windoz XP. With either of the Garritan instrument libraries available to me I can easily overload the output when saving as an audio file. But when I do the same while using EWQLSO the amplitude is extremely low both in pl...
