Horse whinny?

Hello folks! It's been a couple of years since I was here last (medical issues sidelined me for most of that time), but I am still creating music in Finale, and this week I am facing an issue that doesn't seem to have come up before. For a family group I have done up an arrangement of "Sleigh Ride",...

Re: F27 - "one week away"

I generally wait about 6 months before upgrading, but the "reminder" screens whenever I fire up Finale are new this time 'round..

Still, I think I will be able to resist the siren call for at least two or three patches, etc.

Might be a challenge...

Back in the early 1960's Herb Alpert was able to mimic the sound of multiple trumpets through the relatively simple tractic of playing "alongside" his recorded track, but just a touch out of synch. On early Tijuana Brass albums, the sound is almost identical to later albums when a real second trumpe...

Re: Composing in Finale....Is there a more satisfying feelin

Thanks. I will crank it up further because Finale "stopped responding" when I was printing to file, which happens about one in 10 times. Despite its instability, I still like what Finale lets me accomplish. Victoria, eh? I was raised in Altona. Ahh- Australia. You had me there for a moment or two. ...

Re: Composing in Finale....Is there a more satisfying feelin

I'd crank up both the RAM and initial pre-cache (seen in the lower left). Aria generally will offer a variety of potential choices up to the max accessible simply by clicking on the display window showing the current setting. As a "try", reset both values to one step below whatever Aria shows as the...

Re: Composing in Finale....Is there a more satisfying feelin

This is perhaps too obvious to mention, but nonetheless.. What do you use as the "default" setting in Aria's pre-disk cache and Max RAM? Aria seems to want to start with minimums, but it only takes a moment during your initial setup to crank them up (I use 1Gb RAM and 96kB initial pre-cache, for ins...

Re: Can PrintMusic open all (old) Finale files?

For years, everyone (including me) had the same complaint, that the one feature that we had to have wasn't there in PrintMusic. If you added up all of those "just one feature" requests, guess what you would have: Finale! My "one complaint" was more staves, more staves! I had others, but that was th...

Re: Composing in Finale....Is there a more satisfying feelin

Perhaps some of us are getting a little confused as to the definition of the word "compose", here. It seems (and if I'm wrong, by all means let me know) that some folks consider "composing" to be an internal act and "notating" to be something of an external followup, thus separating the two terms. W...

Re: Composing in Finale....Is there a more satisfying feelin

Finale is a tool, and that is actually the best thing I can call it. Because for me it has become the #1 best tool I use to get what I hear in my head onto "paper". I've never had a file corrupt from too many edits (though I do practice "save early, save often"), even after working on one piece for ...

Re: Composing in Finale....Is there a more satisfying feelin

Composing for me was always a frustrating exercise. I had the music "in me", as it were. I could and oftimes did hear the full sound of the final arrangement in my head, but my skills as a musician were limited and with little true background in theory, what I put down on paper certainly did not sou...

I did it through Chrome and had no issues.... totally forgot about the history of problems.

Not to worry, the dl (and all the subsequent ones detailed elsewhere) went smoothly.

The install- well....

Well it isn't BAD. More of an incremental update.

Once I got the GIFF instruments sorted out, it seems to be okay. And the GIFF problem may just be me..

Re: Should I upgrade to 26?

Well, after a little back and forth with Support, I think all is well. When re-installing the entire finale 26 simply did not help, someone at Support suggested that I could simply just uninstall the GIFF component, then reinstall GIFF, reboot and see what happened. Not only did that fix the GIFF is...

Re: Should I upgrade to 26?

I upgraded to 26 (and will adjust my sig block shortly) seemingly without incident until i tried to use the GIFF files, which it turns out were corrupt. So, per the online FAQ I removed 26 and rebooted (Windows 10), then re-downloaded and re-installed from a fresh zip file. Same result. A bunch of e...

Re: Updated pc- re-installation issues.

Update- removed the Aria player completely and rebooted. Then I re-loaded GPO4. Guess what? Now it seems there is no Aria player whatsoever, or at least one did not get installed with GPO.

Color me confused.

Any thoughts? Will I have to removed everything and start again?

Sigh...

Updated pc- re-installation issues.

After far too much dithering about Murpy's Law and the updating of my system, I finally bit the bullet and updated to Win10 and an SSD hard drive (with a second SSD external), then went off to Garritan to update Finale and re-load Garritan.. The update to Finale appears to be okay, but the Aria play...

Re: Printing not black, more like 70% grayscale

My go-to printer is currently a Samsung M2020 laser, which set me back under $80 new. Cartridges run about $70 on sale if you watch the flyers, and for my purposes, I get about 3,000 sheets per cartridge. Works out to a little more than $0.02 per sheet... From Finale or pdf, it's about as black as I...

Castellanos, your English is far better than my French, German or for that matter, Spanish. There is no reason to feel you are not communicating with the great many here for whom English is pretty much the only tongue they have. To me, it`s not a matter of keeping up with the Joneses, as it were. More, it`s a matter of continuing to evolve a world-class professional-quality product. And by and large engravers are a fairly conservative lot. Let's have a quick show of hands, here.. How many of us use the mouse as our p...

Re: Finale 2014 Glissandos

FWIW, I knocked this together to test the Gliss in 14.5, and I do not hear "steps" in the glissandos. The downward gliss is particularly slippery-sounding.

Used GPO trombone #1 and HP set to "standard" in error, but it works the same with HP set to pop or jazz.

Seems to work for me...
