Thanks for replying. It's absolutely infuriating. I sort-of feel it must be a Finale issue (rather than Monterey) because the Times fonts work perfectly well in other applications. I'm now trying to find a font which is similar to Times so that I can achieve some kind of consistency.

I did try it but it seemed to place the notes which do need to be spaced side by side incorrectly. Maybe I did it wrong - I'll try again!

Hi For years I've used the F keys to move between menu items in the main tool palette - I've programmed it in Systems Preferences (under Keyboard - App Shortcuts) and it's worked rather better (IMO) than the Finale's included macros. But I can't get it to work at all in Finale 2014.5 on El Capitain....

Thanks - yes I went down both those roads a bit. The trouble is that if you adjust or replace the hyphens between words you also affect the ones you actually do want (ie those which split up syllables). Nightmare!
