(Dorico doesn't support Rewire, if I am well informed).
No, but it does import video and have markers that sync to time.

Re: Rewire discontinued end 2020 ?

Since the withdrawal of the Movie windows from Finale, the Rewire protocol was the recommended alternative for musicians who write for film. Did anyone (outside of MM) actually recommend it as a way of working? By which I mean saying "yes, this is much better than having a window in Finale itself, ...

Re: gaming the system

But putting dynamics, hairpins, rehearsal marks and text on top of one another and on top of notes and accents, are things that can generally be avoided without too much trouble. If you're really arguing against making improvements in this area, then ... you have the notation app that you deserve. ...

Re: gaming the system

The thing I like best about Finale is that [almost] everything is capable of being customised if you know where to look, unlike many other programs which assume how you want to do things and you can't do it any other way. I can't think of why I would actually want artics and slurs to collide, but F...

Re: gaming the system

I have never used 'Illustrator' nor do I know what it is or does. But I would submit that making current feature more automatic is not a new feature. It is simply a different way of doing something that already can be done. It's a graphic artwork program, for drawing. If 'being able to do everythin...

Re: gaming the system

Finale's problem is that there is little imperative to fix anything because there is very little that cannot be done somehow. You can visually achieve any result - albeit with a lot of manual work and 'faking'. The definition of a "mature program". Well, in that case, Illustrator is a fully 'mature...

Re: gaming the system

I wonder how much time MM has to spend chasing Mac OS changes rather than fixing bugs and adding features. As a fraction of the entire decade of 'code modernization', you mean? I'd suggest that once MM has updated their code from the old libraries which were already deprecated in 2010, (QuickDraw, ...

In another post someone mentioned "cosmetic" issues. But I don't know what that means.
Cosmetic issues are things that affect the visual appearance in a superficial way, without affecting the ability of the program to run and do useful work.

Re: Upgrading question

Until Finale is recompiled for the ARM processor, it's bound to run pretty slowly in the Intel emulation mode. Benchmarks have shown that the M1 chip emulating Intel is still faster than every other Mac, on a single core, and beats an 8-core 2013 Mac Pro on multi-core. https://www.macrumors.com/202...

I wonder if this sale is to dispose of old stock, and a harbinger of Finale 27.
I suspect it's just keeping pace with the market: Steinberg has 50% off everything right now, and Sibelius has 20% off. Most other audio/music software is also discounted.

I think Spitfire only uses VST3 plug-ins, which Finale doesn't support. On the Mac, they use Audio Units, which Finale does support.

Re: Upgrade problem

I have been running Finale 2011 on my Mac OS 10.6.8 very successfully for years. Yesterday I upgraded to OS 10.11.6. I'm curious, after 10 years, what made you upgrade? When you jump large numbers (and c. 6 years' worth) of updates, you tend to get more problems that when you just update to the nex...

Re: "Solo" vs. "player?"

Are they occurring between notes changes, or on long notes (i.e. when the sample repeats)? I can't repeat it here using the GIFF Flute Solo instrument -- either in your Pavanne or just noodling in ARIA Player. However, there are flaws in many of the Garritan instrument definitions. They can be edite...

Re: No Backups

I don't think you've said whether you've checked Time Machine for a backup copy? Because I found Finale's Auto-save unreliable, I use ForeverSave 2, a Mac app which automatically saves every x minutes and keeps versions of each save. It has saved my bacon several times, ( like Finale's bug when all ...

An alternative might be to export MIDI to the DAW, and then re-apply the Garritan samples from there. (And/or other samples.)

Finale makes a backup if the preference is set in the Preferences > Save panel. Screenshot 6.png As for editing PDFs: use a vector drawing package to edit PDFs, such as Adobe Illustrator (expensive), Inkscape (free), Graphic (on the Mac App Store for little money) or other. These will treat each ele...

Re: GPO5 Timpani

I'm also discovering the joys of GPO Timpani right now. Not only are the Rolls in the wrong octave for notation playback, but they don't loop. For some reason, there's an instruction in the sfz file to turn down the volume on the rolls, making them needlessly quiet. While it is possible to hack the ...

Survey: Finale interface

Here's a supposition for you: Suppose the next version of Finale provided exactly the same capabilities as 26.3; and opened old documents perfectly, but it had a radically different user interface, designed to make the app easier to use. In short, the only disadvantage is that you would have to lear...

Re: Aria Player

ARIA Player is both a plug-in that works with Finale to play the Garritan sounds, and a standalone app, so that you can play the sounds from a MIDI keyboard, or from the keyboard on the app itself. The standalone application takes about 5MB of space. Sounds like you just need to move the window onto...

Re: .bundle file cannot be opened because the developer cannot be verified - SOLVED

When you download the plug-ins, the OS adds 'quarantine' meta-data to them, and they won't launch until this is removed. In the Terminal, type xattr -c (followed by a space). Then drag the plug-in from the Finder into the Terminal window and press return. To fix all the JW plug-ins, type something l...

Re: Mac Keyboard does not work for speedy or simple entry.

No: uninstalling and reinstalling doesn't remove user pref files. (Well, it depends how you uninstall: there is no Mac uninstaller, you have to do it yourself.) If a new user account fixes it, then the installation is fine and the problem is something in the old user account. It could be incompatibl...
