can you tell me the best and fastest solution to write the score from cubase? i heard that there is dorico , does anyone ever tried this soft , and is it worthit compared to finale? Re: ARIA engine update (un)available

Yes, it all works fine on Catalina and Mojave. The installer updates the engine and the player, so there should be no problems.

I was given no reason for why MM is not releasing the update.

Is there a different download for Mac? Yes. I was given this link by MM support (only after persisting with asking for it). https://makemusic-downloads.s3.amazonaws.com/ARIAPlayer/1.959/MAC_ARIA_Player_v1.959.pkg?AWSAccessKeyId=AKIAIINSXHWFLPOHB33A&Expires=1571784482&Signature=wH4JAgo3PrgI5Yz2Hc4yC...

Re: Hold off on Catalina?

MM's statement on Catalina is here: https://makemusic.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/360036288573 At this stage, it doesn't look like they've updated it since the release. However, they do say: "All users of legacy software (versions 2014.5 and earlier) should be aware that we do not expect these pro...

Re: Hold off on Catalina?

Finale 26, and ARIA, works fine for me under Catalina, though my testing has not been exhaustive. I'd suggest that Catalina is the OS that Finale has spent the last eight years preparing for, in which MM has removed the long-since deprecated code on which Apple is now finally pulling the plug. From ...

Re: Next Mac OS and Finale?

Finale works fine with Catalina. That warning is about some old eMagic plug-in that's long out of date and not part of Finale as such. Emagic were bought out by Apple several years ago. https://www.scoringnotes.com/news/music-notation-software-and-macos-catalina/ MM, like other companies, traditiona...

PDF imports on a Finale page will look pixellated on print, though the screen display will look good. EPS will print correctly, though the screen display will look awful.

You just might give Perfect Layout a try. When it works it makes Finale what MM should have done a long time ago. Jan is to be commended for the extraordinary effort and achievement of his Perfect Layout plug-in. But you are right: this is what Finale should be doing already (and as with Patterson ...

Anyone used the MIDI Clipboard?

One feature I've only just noticed (or forgotten about and re-discovered) is the MIDI Import from and Export to the Clipboard. According to the docs, Finale can copy and paste MIDI to and from other applications. https://usermanuals.finalemusic.com/FinaleMac/Content/Finale/TRANS.htm I asked MM which...

Partitura or Spartito are generally used for a score. Both can be used for a part, as can parte.

Partitura vocale; la parte della viola, etc, etc.

These possibilities don't exist similarly for the Mac.. Except for apps like Keyboard Maestro , which can trigger sequences of keystrokes from key commands or MIDI input. The OS also has scripting capabilities and user-defined key shortcuts built-in. There's also Metagrid , which works for Mac and ...

I'd humbly suggest 'adequately' rather than 'perfectly'. Finale doesn't just work , but it mostly works ™. Is there any reason why using Finale 26 (.1 — we're not on .2 yet) is a problem? I would generally use the latest version unless there was a specific need to use an earlier one, like collaborating with someone else.

Re: Where are my custom scripts?

Finale 25's scripts should be in <user>/Library/Application Support/MakeMusic/Finale/FinaleScript

If that folder has been deleted, then you can restore the contents from your backup, and then transfer to Finale 26's folder (which is "Finale 26" instead of "Finale".)

MakeMusic has never explained why they did this nor why it’s Mac only. Neither have they acknowledged it as a bug though we’ve been complaining for 2 1/2 years. It depends on the characteristics (or settings?) of the selected Printer in the print menu, when you make the PDF. PDFs Saved when my HP L...

Really?. Well, Finale 25's QuickLook generator is listed in System Information > Legacy Applications, which is a guide to what won't work in September. Also, I get the "Finale 25 is not optimized...." message the first time I preview a .musx file in the Finder. Either way, it's still been removed f...

Re: Should I upgrade to 26?

Mac users should note that Finale 26 does not contain a QuickLook preview generator, so if you want to view Finale documents in the Finder, you'll need 25 installed as well. You could conceivably retain that component separately, and still remove the rest of Finale 25. Though, of course, the QL gene...

Re: Default 4/2 rests and "normal" whole rests in the same f

The thing filling the space between two staff lines is an old-fashioned 2-bar rest. Not that anyone's likely to take it that way without a "2" above it, but I think it's quite unnecessary. The 'thing filling the space' is a Breve rest, which is only 2-bars in 4/4. If you're in 4/2, it's one whole b...
