Re: print publishing file types/specs

If someone else is designing a book that contains music images, then you need to ask them what they want and work with them to produce the right material at the right size.

Re: Sidecar on Mac laptop

I find a 2nd monitor useful for displaying the manuscripts I'm transcribing. Working on my laptop, I have used my iPad to show reference info, both as an independent screen and as a 2nd display using Duet, third-party software that does the same thing as Sidecar (but supports older hardware). You ca...

Re: recover

I seem to be missing a Finale file on my Mac computer. Is there a special way to find it other than "search?" Here's Apple's help pages for filtering searches: https://support.apple.com/en-gb/guide/mac-help/mh15155/mac If it doesn't show up, you'll need to search in your Time Machine backup. “Searc...

Re: playback out-of-range notes

Garritan Personal Orchestra's "Tenor KS" sample has a range up to an A flat, which is pretty insulting!

The Basses don't even reach Middle C, either, stopping at the A below, which is pretty poor. I've had to edit the data to extend them to a more useful range.

I prefer the Engraver flags, as well as the notehead size. However, it lacks some standard symbols found in Maestro, instead having lots of LV tie characters.

Expression Categories? Outrage! Gee, to me that's one of the biggest improvements since I've been using Finale. Me too, but at the time, there was significant forum fury about how this was going to upset existing workflows, and that 4 Staff Sets wasn't nearly enough (MM relented and increased them ...

Your point is well made about those plug-ins but not so much applies to PL. How many people would buy MS Word if it put words or letters all over the page an or top of one another? I'd say it exactly applies to PL: How many people would buy MS Word if you had to buy Perfect Text™ to stop the letter...

Re: Lyrics: 'phrase-end dash' over double barline

Having thought about exactly what it is that a extension line conveys, I've come up with the following: An extension tells you not to 'close' the syllable (e.g. final consonants or vowel modification) on the current notehead, but keep going to the next notehead. Once you're on a notehead with no lin...

Re: Lyrics: 'phrase-end dash' over double barline

I abandoned word extensions long ago and have never had a complaint, even from tenors. As a tenor, I'd certainly complain. Word extensions explicitly convey the information that the next notehead is also to be sung to the same syllable. Maybe that is now to be expected -- what else are you li...

Finale 26 articulation chaos

Well, finally been bitten by articulation madness in v26. Working on an old document that I started in 25, and my articulations are all over the place. Of course, I only discovered this on the printout. It's a custom font character (yes, FAN), and all the upstem artics are off to the left. No amount...

Re: Catalina 26.2 MIDI Note Entry

There are two problems. The first is the physical issue of your Mac having USB ports but no MIDI ports, and your Kurzweil having MIDI ports but no USB ports. As a result, you need some hardware that connects your Mac to your keyboard. The second problem is whether that hardware needs additional soft...

I'm told I no longer need a MIDI interface , just a cable from MIDI to USB on my MacPro desktop. Interface, cable, adaptor, tomato. :D If your MIDI keyboard has a USB port, then you may be able to connect it directly to your computer without drivers. If it just has old MIDI "DIN" (circles with 5 pi...

Re: Minimal laptop requirements to avoid total frustration

Finale's requirements are still pretty light (given that it's essentially software designed years ago). MM's System Requirements page state a computer with 4Gb of RAM and Core 2 Duo CPU, which is average for a computer built more than 10 years ago. https://makemusic.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articl...

Re: Finale 26.2 - Catalina and MIDI Keyboard Entry

What’s your keyboard? Many MIDI keyboards with USB connectors don’t actually need any drivers to work. And indeed, some Audio-Midi interfaces don’t need any drivers to work, either. I got burnt by M-Audio not producing new drivers for Snow Leopard (6 months after release), and so I bought a Roland F...

P.P.S.: One would think that, if something got broken with the code, just look back at the v26.1 code and make it match. Maybe I don't know what I am talking about, but if it is easy to break, it should be easy to fix. So, far, these to Bugs weren't there until v26.2, and both have worked properly ...

I notice that my Finale (2014.5), when playing back, always "pegs the meter" on one of the four CPU cores on my machine. Yes, Finale has always pegged one core for playback. Yes, it all works fine on Catalina and Mojave. The installer updates the engine and the player, so there should be no problems.

I was given no reason for why MM is not releasing the update.
