Re: Survey: Finale interface

Apologies, my reply was slightly tongue-in-cheek. :D

Anyway, it's useful data for a private project I'm working on, so thank you. (Don't worry: we can all agree that there's no danger of MM making any radical changes.!)

Survey: Finale interface

Here's a supposition for you: Suppose the next version of Finale provided exactly the same capabilities as 26.3; and opened old documents perfectly, but it had a radically different user interface, designed to make the app easier to use. In short, the only disadvantage is that you would have to lear...

Re: Aria Player

ARIA Player is both a plug-in that works with Finale to play the Garritan sounds, and a standalone app, so that you can play the sounds from a MIDI keyboard, or from the keyboard on the app itself. The standalone application takes about 5MB of space. Sounds like you just need to move the window onto...

Re: .bundle file cannot be opened because the developer cannot be verified - SOLVED

When you download the plug-ins, the OS adds 'quarantine' meta-data to them, and they won't launch until this is removed. In the Terminal, type xattr -c (followed by a space). Then drag the plug-in from the Finder into the Terminal window and press return. To fix all the JW plug-ins, type something l...

Shouldn't do.

Check the actual installed location, and compare with the file path set in Finale's Preferences.

Re: Mac Keyboard does not work for speedy or simple entry.

No: uninstalling and reinstalling doesn't remove user pref files. (Well, it depends how you uninstall: there is no Mac uninstaller, you have to do it yourself.) If a new user account fixes it, then the installation is fine and the problem is something in the old user account. It could be incompatibl...

Re: Mac Keyboard does not work for speedy or simple entry.

oh my god, created a new user account on the Mac, opened up Finale, works great! that is relieving and infuriating. Thanks a lot for that idea Miker! life saver! That means the problem is with the Finale pref file in your old user account. Go back there, and delete it. (Otherwise, you'll just creat...

According to this support document: http://www.sibelius.com/download/plugins/index.html?help=install you may need to create the relevant folders, if they don't exist. The location is <user>/Library/Application Support/Avid/Sibelius 8/Plugins/ However, according to this tutorial https://www.rpmseattl...

Re: Converting from a Sibelius File?

The process of downloading the plug-in, in the installation phase, was an icon of MusicXML with an arrow indicating to drag it into an alias folder of Sibelius 8. That's where I got stuck, when it said I did not have permission to do that. (And if that is not what you mean by filepath, please let m...

Re: Converting from a Sibelius File?

This is one reason I detest Sibelius. I'm always running into these administrator problems, even though it's my own copy of Sibelius, and I am the only one who uses this computer. I suspect it's not a Sibelius issue, but a general Mac security one. Computers tend to operate on the "principle of lea...

Re: New Finale 26.3.1.520 Available

The Mac build number for the new update is 26.3.1.643. I am tempted to know what the new dark mode is like. Well, the Tool Palettes haven't been changed, so they're incongruously pallid. Obviously, it only affects menus and dialogs: it doesn't invert the actual music on the page. Because white music...

Re: O/T-ish: harp pedals

How do others here keep track of harp pedals while working? it gets a bit tedious and frustrating to mark pedals on a piece of paper, then cross out, rewrite, cross out, rewrite, ad nauseam. If only calculating harp pedals and adding the markings to the part automatically was the kind of thing that...

Re: Finale 26.3 broke FinaleScript involving Text Tool

When you say "did not work", do you mean your scripts don't work, or the app itself didn't launch, or what? Was there an error message? If so, what was it?

Re: Finale 26.3 broke FinaleScript involving Text Tool

Then either some other file needs to be restored, or the problem is not related to the installation of 26.3. As said, the installer also updates files in /Library/Application Support/MakeMusic/Finale 26 , but I can't see anything there that might stop your own scripts from working. It's worth doing ...

Re: Whither JW and TG?

I meant the emulation won't be perfect. I dare say recompiled code, once built, will be very smooth. I bought an Intel iMac in 2006, and couldn't install Finale 2005 on it, because MM's authentication code was PPC code running in emulation, and wouldn't work properly. I had to buy Finale 2007 just t...

Re: Whither JW and TG?

Apple's showcase demonstrated Rosetta 2, an emulation layer that will run Intel code, including plug-ins, on the new ARM hardware. Interestingly, the code will be translated at installation, rather than at execution. Undoubtedly, it won't be perfect, but Apple seem to be throwing the kitchen sink at...

Re: What are these noteheads doing here?

There's a plug-in called "Voice 2 to Layer...", which lets you assign it to a Layer.

I believe that Voices were the original function for polyphonic lines on one staff, and then obviously instead of expanding the concept, they introduced an entirely separate feature, while still keeping the old one.

Re: What are these noteheads doing here?

They look like Human Playback 'remnants', which are I think Hidden and in Voice 2 (not Layer 2).

If not, Engraver font has loads of noteheads with LV ties where Maestro has other characters.

Re: Graphics problems with Finale 26.3

Finale doesn't have a monopoly on production engraving. Sibelius has been used by many leading houses for years. You can argue about the quality/standard, but that's mostly a commercial choice. It's been well advertised that an edition of Bach transcriptions was prepared for Baerenreiter using MuseS...
