Re: Is this a solution for the demise of Finale?

You can carry on using Finale on an old machine for years, but you need to be prepared for it to suddenly stop working at any time. Your current hardware could fail, and a new machine might require a new OS that isn't compatible. (Even a future build of W11.) I would make sure you have XML files and...

Re: Piano Sustain Pedal

What instrument are you using? Garritan/ARIA? At the very least, CC64 should trigger the pedal (assuming you're using the 'Notation' bank of instruments, not the "Standard" banks found in some Garritan libraries.) ButI would have thought that if you've added a Pedal mark, then HP should deal with it.

I wondered how soon someone would ask....! At the very least, it launches, opens documents and prints. I haven't tested every facet. ARIA Player also still works, as both standalone and plug-in. (It will be interesting to see if MM posts anything...) From the roadmap announced at the WWDC, the...

ARIA Engine update !!

Some users will know that when MakeMusic ported ARIA Player to Apple Silicon on the Mac, they changed the version number to 2.0xx. However, they left Windows users on 1.959. (Although both are actually the same codebase.) The ARIA engine always checks that the data it loads (e.g. saved VST plug-in s...

Re: Commercial sheet music platforms

Are you looking for a platform where you can sell your arrangements, or where you can buy arrangements? MuseScore.com is basically the 2000 lb gorilla in the marketplace, as they have bought Hal Leonard, so the rights are already covered. You can download all kinds of arrangements of all kinds of mu...

Re: Comparing files opened in different versions of Finale

The first thing you should do is to make a PDF of your finished version in Finale. Firstly, that means that you can print copies regardless of Finale or Dorico. A PDF will also be ideal for comparing the original while you're working in Dorico. I'd advise learning how Dorico works BEFORE attempting ...

Re: Finale with 5K Monitor?

My memory could be wrong, but I think the issues with resolution have been on Windows. On Mac, the OS handles the screen scaling, so there's not much that the application needs to be responsible for. (In fact, you haven't been able to set an application to be "low-res" for several years.) In short: ...

Re: This time Finale 27 won't playback but Printmaker 14 will

I decided to try a full reset: uninstall Finale and then reinstall it. That seems to have worked. But I still don't know how some setting got changed that cut off playback..... If it's a settings issue, then Uninstalling and Reinstalling is a massively unnecessary waste of time and effort. (And not...

Re: Registry of paid Finale consultants

To be brutally honest, there is absolutely no point in paying money to learn Finale now. If you're going to spend time and money learning and using notation software, then realistically you should choose either Dorico or MuseScore.

Re: Mac Sequoia: any known problems with F 27?

You should be able to access phone text messages on the Mac's Messages.app. There is also a Whatsapp Mac app (if you're into that) on the App Store, which syncs with your phone.

Anyway, glad you're up and running.

Re: Mac Sequoia: any known problems with F 27?

No problems have been reported as specific to Sequoia. TBH, I don't think there's any need to update to Sequoia. Its main feature was supposed to be all the Apple Intelligence stuff, which is largely a washout. I'm still on Sonoma on my desktop Mac; I will probably update to Sequoia when they releas...

That's definitely not any of the bundled Finale text fonts. If you have a PDF file, you can identify the fonts included within it. If you have Adobe Reader or Acrobat, there's a font section in the Document Properties dialog. If not, I can help you with that. It looks like a 'Broadway' clone, with s...

Re: Modern state of beaming over barlines

Why isn't this just as simple as click a note, press the slash key (Simple entry), and beams form across barlines just as they would be created and broken intra-measure? It's my understand that Finale's data structures define each measure as a separate chunk of data, and beaming is defined inside t...

Re: .musicxml vs .mxl

MusicXML was always billed as a 'lossless' format, in which everything -- content, layout, style -- was retained, particularly during the phase when MM responded to any problem in a Finale document with "export it as XML and import it back". But it never completely lived up to this, and the format i...

Re: Suddenly unable to open files

Unless I missed it, nobody suggested to delete and reinstall Finale...? Any amount of corrupted Finale installation wouldn't affect PDF files. Reinstallation is largely over-rated as a fix for problems. The files that installers write to the disk tend to be read-only, and can't get deleted without ...

Check this Dutch site, which offers the 27 version (English) to users who have a previous version. https://www.hacomusic.nl/finale-27-upgrade.html An upgrade to 27 still needs MM to acknowledge the purchase and authorise it to your account, and MM has stopped selling the upgrade (other than 'free' ...

Re: How to creatre dashed lines that appear in all parts, but only on the top line of a score - and wrap properly

It's worth saying that Dorico does this very easily. Tempo Marks, including accel. lines are "System Objects", which appear on the top staff of the system in any layout. Enter them once, and they appear on the top staff of an instrumental part, and on the top staff of a full score, vocal score, etc....

If you have your registration number for the 1998 version, or other proof that you bought it, you should contact MakeMusic. Hope for the best, but plan for the worst.

You can take steps to keep Finale running for an unspecified time; but at some point, it will stop -- and users should be prepared for that.

Re: convert old .mus MusicTime file to something current

In the FinaleScript Palette there is a script for batch exporting a folder of Finale documents. But, as you say, whether the .mus files need to be converted to...

Re: Is It Really SO Over With Finale?

As a software engineer, I'm not sure that fixing most of the bugs would require ripping up huge swathes of code. For example, one of the worst ones involved Finale's temp files being purged by the operating system while they were still in use. I was thinking more of bugs in the notation algorithms,...
