Any simple way of auditing 'all' of Finale's soundfonts?

I was thinking of creating a library of soundfont samples in MP3 format for reference as I am unfamiliar with most of the exotic ones available in Finale, some of which I think are suitable for novel use. For instance, the Blow Bottle has characteristics of a pan flute. But maybe someone has already...

Re: Need help with naming diminished 7th chords

I think Peter's confusion is justified. As a result, I will no longer use leading tone and leading note interchangeably as some music teachers in the past led me to adopt. It seems logical to regard a 'note' as referring to a specific pitch, while a tone refers to, say, texture or frequency: they tw...

Re: Can we copy & paste a measure of rests?

Thanks to all for the valuable help, and thank you Miker of the kind offer to walk me through. Looking back, I see my conniption was unfounded. I have no excuse.

The Staff Set option also worked nicely, and I can see the method being handy for other projects.

Re: Need help with naming diminished 7th chords

I think of chord resolution as a progression of notes achieving completion or (in semitic or right-hemispheric thinking) terminating a sense of motion...coming to a stop...becoming static, although, for example, a perfect cadence like G to C (V-I) may not always be the composers objective. So we mig...

Re: Need help with naming diminished 7th chords

I apologize for not being clearer. If a diminished 7th always resolves as a leading tone, such as C#dim7 to Dm (C# to D = semitone) then--in the naming process--can we not work backwards, such as identify the resolving chord then count back one semitone (in the scale) to identify the dim7? For examp...

Re: Need help with naming diminished 7th chords

That helps. Thank you. One of my music teachers once told me that a proper understanding of figured bass was necessary for naming such chords. Up to that time, I had always named a dim 7 after the lowest note in the chord. Now if a diminished chord always resolves up one semitone, can we infer that ...

Need help with naming diminished 7th chords

I must have dozed off in music class when figured bass was taught, so my theoretical knowledge in music comes up short. My strength is flamenco guitar technique. So I am hoping somebody more knowledgeable at this forum will lend me a hand and look at page 4 of the attached document, and tell me if I...

Re: Can we copy & paste a measure of rests?

I like the idea of copying notes to paste then edit later, though more time-consuming. But the option has limited functionality as Finale often does not let me access ledger notes, like E2 for guitar. And I tried scrolling down...so many shortcomings in the program. I have no idea how Peter is able ...

Can we copy & paste a measure of rests?

When repeating a phrase many times, like when writing a tremelo part for flamenco guitar (groups of five notes played at the speed of four), it would help workflow if able to enter the rests, copy & paste the measure of rests in subsequent measures then overwrite the rests with the notes. Any way to...

Re: Did v26 do away with Space Measures Evenly?

Thanks. That worked. Yeah Mike, you told me so. LOL! Converting MUS files created in a 32-bit version of Finale to MUSX in a 64-bit version of Finale skewed many measure widths for me. I figured spacing them evenly then manually widening the busy ones was what I needed to do. But the Note Spacing op...

Did v26 do away with Space Measures Evenly?

I believe v2012 offered the ability to space all measures evenly in a score. In v26, I cannot find any such option in the Measure Tool, Preferences, Document Options or Utilities. Is the feature still available, and if so where can it be found?

Re: Swarm of Finale 25/26 Bugs: At this point, Unusable

I too experienced a myriad of problems after upgrading from 32-bit v2012 to 64-bit v26, including frequent lock-ups and inability to extract parts: I had to extract one instrument at a time. The techs at ZenDesk recommended a fresh download and clean install, meaning I had to manually remove all res...

Re: Guitar bend-to error solved!

The error occurs when entering the symbol across staff systems, such as when the guitar bend commences at the end of one page and terminates at the beginning of another. My 64-bit version of Finale 26 incorrectly accrues the interval; for when I delete preceding guitar bends in the staff, the proble...

Any control of Page View during playback?

Scroll View and Studio View are options for viewing a staff system lower down on a page during playback, but is there a way to stop Finale from jumping to the top staff in Page View, when zoomed in to 200%?

Guitar bend-to error

In the attached document, on page 1, the guitar bend symbol accurately indicates a "bend-to" of a full tone. But on page 2, while the interval is shown correctly in measures 31, 35 and 39, the same interval is displayed erroneously as 3-1/2 semitones in measures 33 and 37. If I click on "3-1/2" it s...

Re: Percussion layout for the didgeridoo?

I think you are referring to the scale below C, which is pretty much unusable as the sound is degraded. E4 and G4 notes play back as B2, and sound authentic. If I write an F#4 and sustain the note, a very good imitation of s kookaburra can be heard. I am hoping a percussion MIDI map layout can be co...

Re: Percussion layout for the didgeridoo?

Ah, you are correct. The technique for playing the didgeridoo (aka Yidaki) is akin to trombone, a none-reed instrument. Ron is playing one similar to one my father played (waxed). In my collection, none of the expensive ones I have sound as rich as one that I constructed out of paper towel rolls. I ...

Re: Percussion layout for the didgeridoo?

I do not know what version of Finale you are using, evidently it is a better version than mine (26.2.1.468), which does not correctly classify the Didgeridoo as a woodwind instrument but erroneously lists under "Brass." So MakeMusic added yet another problem to fix. (It would also be nice if instrum...

Percussion layout for the didgeridoo?

When I write for the didgeridoo in v26, all the notes play back in the pitch of B1. I need them to be in A1. (Garritan -> World -> Brass -> Didgeridoo.) When I open the document, the following message appears: Didgeridoo.jpg The didgeridoo is not a percussive instrument, but do I still need to creat...

Re: Tied notes get louder over time despite pp marking

Yes, the contrabass harmonics compound over time, and the volume of the instrument naturally oscillates, which you want for authenticity. But I think also that the human ear becomes sensitized to the sustaining note (the brain starts releasing NE). You could add hidden hairpins and additional hidden...

Re: Need sound advice transferring files from 2010 to v26

Garritan Ambience has been discontinued; so when you convert a MUS file to a MUSX, you will need to deselect Garritan Ambience in the new document; otherwise Finale will nag you with the notice each time you open the converted document. I think the Garritan Ambience box has been kept for this purpos...

I think I discovered the problem. I use dual monitors. When I moved Score Manager back to monitor #1, I was able to change instruments. I experienced no such problem when using v2012.

But thanks for responding.

Re: Cannot change an instrument in Score Manager

As far as I know, changing from English Horn to Synth Brass does not involve changing from one clef to two. To rule out a defective document, I tried changing a variety of instruments in a default document, but without success. I sent MakeMusic three files it requested: MsInfo, DxDiag, and Plogue's ...

Cannot change an instrument in Score Manager

After "upgrading" Finale from v2012 (x86) to v26 (x64), I converted all my .mus files to .musx. Now, if I edit a score and wish to change an instrument, like Horn if F to Synth Brass--in Score Manager--I am unable to do so. The instrument is locked. Now if I highlight the entire staff and then go in...
