pizz and arco playback together on divisi staff
In a staff with divisi (double bass in this instance), is it possible to have one part playback arco and the other pizz? Easy enough to indicate in the score, but playback seems to insist on producing both parts pizz or both arco.

Re: tempo lost on playback if top staff muted
Thanks for the suggestions, Michel. I can't see any difference between the file that works and the one that doesn't--both are set to playback VST and HP standard. Of course, there are LOTS of settings all over the place, most of which I have no familiarity with, so there must be something that is no...

tempo lost on playback if top staff muted
I recently created a track from a score for violin, mezzo, and piano for the singer to use for learning the score. She wanted the piano part only, so I muted the violin (top staff of the score) as well as the mezzo. The resulting wav file was completely at the wrong tempo. If I unmute the violin but...

Re: copy music to new file does not bring in time signature changes
Thanks for a very useful tip. It does work as you say although it seems weird. If I select, say, staff 5 from the original and then paste it into the new, time signature changes do NOT come along, and, in fact, some other weird changes are made in notated rhythms. When I make a staff set of just sta...

copy music to new file does not bring in time signature changes
Working with very old version files, updating them and correcting some percussion notation problems, there were so many issues that I decided to create a new empty (1 measure) master file with score manager set up correctly for all parts and then copy the data from the old file, using the edit filte...

global change tuplet appearance after the fact
I've decided, after entering several pages, that I want all the tuplets to have brackets. I've change the tuplet default appearance to "always use specified shape" in document options, but sadly it does not seem to work in arrears. Is there a way to change all the tuplets already entered other than ...

Patterson beam across barline notes do not sound on playback
The gray notes added by Patterson "beam across barline" do not sound on playback. I have control-clicked the measure in question to get to the Edit Frame and found that playback IS checked on all notes in the measure. As an experiment, I actually turned playback OFF on a couple other notes and yet t...

Re: any way to play back percussion sounds not in the same midi map?
Pardon my delay in following up this chain. Other activities intervened! Thanks for the sample you sent. I can't play it because it says my Aria player is out of date. I have NEVER used Aria, not intentionally anyhow, to my knowledge, and know zip about it. I can see from your sample that you create...

Re: looking for tenor drum in midi maps
Answering my own question, the category of "toms", available in several maps, seems to cover the sound in question. Arguably as well, "high tom" would serve for snare drum with snares off. I'm still hoping someone will point me to a list of sounds by map so that I could look for, say, "wood block" a...

Re: any way to play back percussion sounds not in the same midi map?
Attached is not a simple file but it is one movement of a work in which I am encountering this issue. Percussion player 2 plays suspended cymbal, wood blocks, and maracas at various points in the score. As far as I've been able to locate, susp cym is only in Basic Orchestral Percussion; wood blocks ...

Is there a way to hear percussion midi map sounds in advance?
Is there a way to listen to the available sounds in any given map before assigning them to a layout set? It's very tedious to apply a layout and then start adding notes in a test staff just to hear the sounds before choosing the ones I actually want. I should say that I do no have an actual MIDI key...

Re: any way to play back percussion sounds not in the same midi map?
Thanks, Zuil. My profile is totally wrong! I've corrected it. I'm a Windows user and running Finale 26. So, what's your solution??? The only workaround I've found so far is to duplicate the staff that has the playback issue, apply a different layout to the second staff that will pick up the "missing...

any way to play back percussion sounds not in the same midi map?
I'm new to using the percussion features in Finale. Bit tricky. Do I understand correctly that if a percussion part on one staff includes instruments that cannot be found in the same MIDI map, say slapstick and tam tam (just as an example), there is no way to get both to play back? I tried using a d...

looking for tenor drum in midi maps
I'm fairly new to using the complex world of percussion sounds in Finale, but I'm trying to learn. Searching both Garritan and SoftSynth, I cannot seem to find tenor drum (also tried name "field drum") nor snare drum snares off (which would be similar, of course, but "higher" in pitch). I'd settle f...

Even using the handbell template, I'm not finding the "standard" gyro symbol. Does it exist anywhere?

programming staff sets
Following Tutorial 5, I shift-click two staves (Vln 1 and Vla in the tutorial). I release the Shift key, hold down the Ctrl key and while holding Ctrl, click View, Program Staff Set, Staff Set 1. Then I release the Ctrl key. Other than losing the selection indicator on the Vln I and Vla staves, noth...
