Re: Instrument plays only on repeat
OK, I completely removed the piano staves, both to uncomplicated what you hear, and so that the exported audio file would be less than 100 KB when zipped. I've attached the zipped MP3 of just the top two staves being played. No, I haven't contacted tech support yet. I was thinking perhaps someone el...

Re: Instrument plays only on repeat
Peter, Sorry for the long delay in my reply; I got distracted by other projects, and just remembered to check back on this one. NO, I hear the same problem with this "fixed" one. The Tenor/Bass voices have a D in the second measure of the repeat that should play only the first pass of the repeat, bu...

Re: Instrument plays only on repeat
Thanks. I have chopped out the bulk of the file, leaving only a few measures. The notes in the bass clef within the repeat should play only on the first pass, not the second. But I was unable to make that happen.

Re: Instrument plays only on repeat
[Finale 2014a] I thought I understood what you are suggesting about creating two expressions, one for pass 1 and one for pass 2, and setting the controller 11 (Expression) to 0 for the pass that should be silent, and 127 for the pass that should play back. But I must have gotten something wrong. The...

subito forte
PrintMusic 2011a. Dynamics. I have subito p as an option, but there is no subito f . If I just add the f dynamic instead, the playback does a gradual crescendo up to the forte, when I really need the sudden transition. Is there no way to get the same sudden transition effect for forte as we can for ...

Accidentals lost even when tied
Is there some option to tell PrintMusic 2011a to actually obey the rules of musical notation in this regard? It's highly annoying that I have to keep refreshing the accidental, even when the note has been tied to one in the previous measure. It's just plain wrong to lose the accidental when tied acr...

Additive repeats
I have a section of four measures with four staves that I want to repeat four times. With each repetition, I want the instrument on a different staff to join in with the instrument(s) already playing. In other words, the first time through, one instrument is playing, on the second repeat, a second i...

Re: Hang for extremely long time when opening certain file
One thing I did notice was that your original piece seemed to use multiple "layers" for entire bars where there didn't appear to be any changes between layers. Were you aware of this? Was it done for a reason? I can see using layers when you have differing timing between voices in a single bar, but...

Re: Hang for extremely long time when opening certain file
Yes, that was an interesting experiment! I exported to MusicXML, and then immediately imported that back to .mus, and the new file doesn't have the problem! I'll have to clean up the formatting, of course, but it seems to have preserved most, if not all, of my original. Are there any known gotchas w...

Re: Hang for extremely long time when opening certain file
Yes, that one opens almost instantly, just like all my other .mus files. That means that something you changed was causing the problem. Do you recall all the things you changed? I observed that the instruments used to play it were also different. I had considered doing an export to MusicXML to see i...

Re: Hang for extremely long time when opening certain file
I have Windows 7 on a four-year-old PC that is closer to bvstudio's setup. To answer the other question from Peter, this is the ONLY file that gives me this problem. I have perhaps 40 other .mus files and no delay opening them. Very clearly something different about this file. And based on your obse...

Re: Hang for extremely long time when opening certain file
I have added the Zipped file. I hope someone will have some insight into how to examine the file and tell me what's wrong. I really don't want to go to the extreme pain of the binary search that has been suggested.

Hang for extremely long time when opening certain file
For some reason that I can't explain, there is a specific .mus file that takes "forever" to open. The status bar tells me it's at 96% for a whole minute or two before FINALLY opening the file. I am attaching the file, in case anyone knows how to diagnose and help me resolve this.... well, hmm. I tri...
