Re: Fix Polychord - superimposed chord notation

I use the same method Peter suggested. Except that for the horizontal line I use the Chord Definition>Chord Suffix Selection to make a chord suffix using two M dashes, with the second one backed off slightly to avoid a gap between them. This results in three stacked chord symbols, rather than two ch...

Is the Playback window open? The behavior you describe happens with me if the Playback window is open. If it's closed, the playback starts where I click with the spacebar down. Jerry Engelbach, You are using Mac Finale - right? What you describe = the difference between {Playback Controls open} and...

Re: Notation question - 'a2' divisi in brass for flex-orchestra?

Andrew, "a2" means that you have just one part that is to played by two instruments in unison. Similarly, a3, a4, etc. When you have two instruments and two parts on one stave, it's understood that you want the instruments to divide up the parts. No other indication is needed. Normally, the first in...

Yes, my caps lock works.

But maybe, as you suggest, Finale just doesn't recognize it.

Motet,

Thanks. You're right, of course.

But I don't know why the trick doesn't work for me with Speedy entry.

Re: Speedy Entry with MIDI Keyboard - What if I can't play the chord with my left hand?

Peter,

Actually, no, I haven't forgot the caps lock. A rest still appears when I press a value key, either on my keyboard or number pad.

The trick only works for me with Simple Entry.

Re: Speedy Entry with MIDI Keyboard - What if I can't play the chord with my left hand?

RimasG, Thanks for the tip. On the Mac, it doesn't seem to work with Speedy Entry, because as soon as you press a value, a rest appears on the staff. However, it works in Simple Entry. Insert a note — any note — of the correct value, press caps lock, and play the chord with two hands. The original n...

1. With the chord tool, double click anywhere in the score where there is no chord. 2. That brings up the Chord Definition box. 3. At the top, click Show Advanced. 4. At the bottom, under Suffix, click Select. 5. That brings up the Chord Definition box. 6. Find the errant chord suffix, select it, an...

Re: entering multiple grace notes

Never mind. Here was the solution from Finale, which works for single grace notes but not multiple ones. Open your file. Select MIDI/Audio > Human Playback > Human Playback Preferences. Navigate to the MIDI Data tab. Next to Start/Stop Time, select HP (Ignore Data) from the dropdown menu. Click OK. ...

Re: Musescore the answer?

I've been a Finale user since version 1, with its incoherent manual and slow response time. I can't see switching to something else. But, just in case, I've been trying to follow a Sibelius tutorial, which I find not at all friendly. I suppose I should take a look at MuseScore and Dorico as well. Ju...

musicus, Double click with the clef tool in the measure where you want the clef to start. That brings up the Change Clef dialogue box. Select the clef you want. Under Show Clef, select Always. That allows you to enter a percentage for the size of the clef. At the bottom left, select Place Clef after...

Re: Cross-staff rolled chords with multiple layers

Soli, I have found inconsistent playback of rolled chords in different scores. Two thoughts. 1. It may have something to do with which staff the roll originates on. Did you apply it on the top staff and drag it down or vice versa? 2. A roll that starts on the first measure of a piece has no leading ...
