Re: File sharing

If I were 20, even 10, years younger I would have gone to Dorico by now. However, I'm 80, so probably won't. If Finale packs up completely, I'll most likely just use manuscript. I'm fluent, quick and instinctive (and legible!) writing in pencil, plus I have a huge supply of A3 paper with 14, 18, 24 ...

Re: Converting to Mp3 format

On the Mac, Switch does a good job at converting any audio format to any other audio format (even in batches and different mp3 qualities). FWIW I obtained Switch about a year ago, when the only way I could buy a particular recording of some Schumann songs was as a download, as there was no CD avail...

Re: Transposition

So I just came across the new to me concept of transposition. Am I correct in my understanding that if I am playing sheet music made for the alto saxophone that I can just not deal with transposition for now? I feel we're all guessing a bit at what is your question. Here is my take on what I think ...

Re: What is the "purpose" of the page margins settings?

As it happens I've just in the last few minutes been adjusting the margins of a 247 page score so that the contents of all the right hand pages is shifted somewhat to the right to accommodate the binding, while keeping the default margins for the left hand pages. (There is a global option for having...

Indeed that would be nice.
- Excellent for a feature request.
This seems to be a relevant dialogue in Dorico:

It looks like you used the square root of 2 for both calculations, but with different results.

Zuill
I suspect he may have done square root of square root for 4th root.

Re: Stave height

Geddit? Sort of - IF I've understood, I need to multiply the absolute stave height of 24 points by the Resulting System Scaling to get the figure in points for the stave size for A4, and to multiply this result by the square root of 2 for A3 or by the 4th root of 2 for B4. To convert the points of ...

Stave height

I still seem to find this confusing, although I've had it all explained to me here in the past (by Peter, I think). For the A4 specified in the dialogue (screenshot), is the stave height 73% of 4.8 mm or something different? What height would it be if printed to B4? And if printed to A3? The current...

Re: Lyric Hyphen Help

It sounds like you might use a non-breaking hyphen, one that does not break a word into syllables. In stead of the usual hyphen, type Alt+0173, or use Insert hard hyphen (Lyrics window > Text). Unfortunately on a Mac the ‘hard hyphen’ appears as an n-dash which in many fonts looks wrong, as shown i...

Re: an oddity with Opt.9

N.B. : 9 without the option key works (numeric keypad in Speedy) on a single note. The addition of the option key (with the cursor on the first note of the measure) is supposed to change enharmonies in the whole measure. This doesn't seem to work (Mac Catalina, Finale 26). What Opt plus 9 seems to ...

Re: Text Block Bug?

I seem to get solid lines when editing the title of a piece here on Mac (screenshot). There are couple of interesting things, however. Not all the text seems to be highlighted automatically and in File Info only the first three words of the title (‘A Few Notes’) are present. None of this seems to ma...

Re: Auto Save Interruptions

I haven't heard back from them yet, but in the meantime I think you may (not sure) be able to download and use the free trial version if you click on that button and then license it in due course. From what I can see there may not be a version for Mac OS later than 10.14. I expect this may be the pr...

Re: Auto Save Interruptions

For some time now I've been using ForeverSave2 https://toolforcesoftware.com/foreversave/ in preference to Finale's own auto save. It seems to work extremely well (for me at least). I haven't had a Finale freeze for a long time except sometimes with playback, which is peripheral for me, so not too m...

Re: Misbehaving rests in 12/8

This still happens in 12/8 & 9/8 fill with rests, but I think may now be mostly a Mac problem. I've just checked something I seemed to remember about this. If one uses fill with rests and then corrects the rests before using that bar as a source for copy and paste, the error is recreated in the dest...

For me at least, this problem exists with the version of TGTools that comes with Finale, but not with the full version of TGTools which centres them correctly without my needing to do anything extra.

Is this what you want?

If so, all I did was to keep adding pianos while creating a new file via the Setup Wizard. You could then save it as a template.

I apologise if this is not what you want.

Re: Tuplets over bar lines

It makes me want to cry when I see how quickly and fluently you enter the notes. I've used Finale for 11 years and thousands of hours, all on simple entry, and it is still a painful distressing process for me. Should I learn to use speedy entry? Do I need a keyboard to use it? FWIW I use Speedy wit...

I did that key combination and nothing happened. Using the dialog box with success. :D
On my Macs with F 26 or F 25, you select the notes & then key option and up or down arrow. You should not key shift as well (if that's what the manual says, it seems to be wrong, at least for my set-up).

Re: Gap between tr and wavy line, reduced stave

Thanks, Zuill, that's what I need. For the Engraver font trill line with a 65% stave the minus figure works out a bit over double yours, but the principle is the same. It may be a minor (no more) bore checking through 30 mins worth of score to find these and to create the same for the sharp trills a...

Re: Gap between tr and wavy line, reduced stave

The problem persists for me, with the custom shape shown. If I add a trill with accidental to a full sized stave it looks as it should, if I add one to a reduced stave it looks as shown. I thought the problem might be with my using Engraver as my default music font, but there seems to be a gap if I ...

Any suggestions for overcoming this gap after tr when the size of a stave is reduced in relation to the others? This is a file originally created in Finale 2001 (which didn't have this particular problem as far as I can judge from the published score), whose ‘engraving’ I am now tidying up in Finale...

Re: Problems with Graphics tool PDF export

Am I right in recalling that print to PDF doesn't work well on the Mac? If so, then Windows and the Mac have opposite solutions for PDF. When I still used a Mac, I recall that the "print to pdf" available in the Mac system was in fact superior to a number of other choices, free pdf programs include...
