Assign the staff to a new instance and new channel in the Aria player.

Re: Tips for structuring practice session

My thing is I am bad at telling others what to do. How can I make these sessions effective? It’s tricky for me to know exactly what to focus on. That's why teachers make lesson plans--outlines and objectives of what they want to accomplish in a day, week, month, and semester. Write down some of the...

Re: Any way to dampen sustain of pitched percussion?

Along the lines of hidden staccato notes, you might also copy the staccato mark and then redefine it to a shorter or longer length. I've done this, both hiding and showing the mark. This can be time-consuming in a large score with many staves requiring the adjustment. I don't know why it's not playi...

Re: Unable to apply dynamics to Oohs and Aahs

I have these kinds of problems when my files were created in previous versions of Finale.

Re: Any way to dampen sustain of pitched percussion?

The "Percent Alter" is grayed. What did I overlook? It's been a while since I worked in Windows, so the steps may be slightly different. However, as I recall, the steps are the same. Th first step: With selection tool, I just drag the cursor to highlight the note(s) I want to alter. In the MIDI Too...

Re: Any way to dampen sustain of pitched percussion?

I've used oldmkvi's staccato dot and line-dot suggestion, both with hidden and visible accents. To shorten a note's duration, select the note(s), and then bring up the MIDI Tool. Click "Note Durations," and then "Percent Alter." Enter a number. See if that works. I use this technique so often that I...

Re: Unable to apply dynamics to Oohs and Aahs

Are you using the term "channels" interchangeably with "layers"? I suppose channels and layers could be interchangeable, but in most of my scores, they are not. Have you tried moving all the music from channels 1 and 2 to 3, or keeping all the music on channel 1 (and, of course, making the appropri...

Re: Unable to apply dynamics to Oohs and Aahs

I have no idea why, but I've often experienced the same thing on layer 2--dynamics don't work. Have you had similar results using channels 3 and 4? Channel 3 has been my workaround in this situation.

Re: Skipping on playback

Update: I changed the sample rate from 96000 Hz to 44100 Hz. I don't remember why or when I set it at 96000. Nevertheless, no skipping at 44100, so far. All's working well.

Re: Skipping on playback

I know. Look farther down.

Anyone have any suggestions on how to eliminate the skipping? I should add that the skipping also occurs in the Finale 26.1 demo.

Thanks.

Re: Skipping on playback

Evidently your vision of Finale is not compatible with Mojave.
My understanding is that Finale 25.5 is compatible with Mojave--not compatible with Catalina. Everything else works fine.
Where would I find "Mike's comments in general"?

Skipping on playback

I'm working on an iMac in Mojave 10.14.6, 16 GB of RAM. Finale 25.5 with HP on, using GPO5 and COMB2 instruments. I've been getting a lot of skipping on playback using playback controls. There is no skipping when I export an audio file and play it back. Sample rate is set at 96000 Hz, and buffer siz...

Yes, it all works fine on Catalina and Mojave. The installer updates the engine and the player, so there should be no problems.
Thanks. Good to know.

Re: ARIA engine update (un)available

Thanks, BuonTempi. Did you install the updated engine? Does everything still work OK?

I downloaded the package, but until I upgrade to Catalina and Finale 26, I'm very leery about installing it.

Re: Hold off on Catalina?

You could downgrade from Catalina to Mojave. I did that on my MacBook Air, but not because of Finale (it was another issue). After the downgrade, I re-installed Finale 25.5, GPO5, and COMB2. All that took forever, but Finale is working again.

Re: Hold off on Catalina?

I'm aware of the hold-off-on-updating caveat. Still, can anyone confirm that Finale and Garritan sound libraries (and the Aria player) work in Catalina?

Re: ARIA engine update (un)available

Why can't I download the update? I was allowed to install the latest player update, which is set to work in 64-bits mode, so what's the problem?
Jay, have you created a ticket with MM with these questions? I have the same problem.

I live surrounded by sheep but none have ever made me think of pedal markings…
Does that mean that some of the music you hear is baaaaaaaad?

Re: When one in four isn't good enough

I can confirm that on a Mac hairpins do not seems able to be drawn over system breaks in page view. Also my experience. I work most comfortably in page view, so when I see hairpins that don't draw over a system break, I enter scroll view, move the hairpins around a bit, and realign them. That works...

Re: Can anyone explain this? Phantom Apple logo

MakeMusic has never explained why they did this nor why it’s Mac only. Neither have they acknowledged it as a bug though we’ve been complaining for 2 1/2 years. I've complained about this to MM. I have a Brother MFC-L2740DW printer. A customer rep and I went through a myriad of experiments and test...
