Re: Finale sounds

When I reassign playback sounds to NotePerformer, the sample sounds fine--including percussion. Except for the Aria player and Garritan sounds suggestions I made, I can't think of any other ways to tweak the playback.

Re: Finale sounds

So now I guess the question moves from "not there" to, how to make them useable or loud enough to actually hear them in conjunction with the rest of the chart. In addition to what ttw said, place the low-sounding instruments in their own Aria instances and pump up their volumes in "Audio Units Bank...

Re: Finale sounds

Which percussion instruments do you find lacking? When I first bought COMB2 and GPO5, I had trouble finding the right sounds that distinguished an orchestral clashed (crash) cymbals sound and a suspended cymbal sound. In GPO5's basic orchestral percussion, I settled on midi note 85 for a truer clash...

FWIW, I'm running Finale 26.3.1.643 on Mac OS 10.15.6 with no problems.

Re: Aria player

Here's a tip. I use COMB2, GPO5, and NotePerformer. In the last few months, I've been using NotePerformer exclusively except for some percussion sounds from GPO5--snare drum, clashed cymbals, suspended cymbal, glockenspiel, and xylophone. I've used COMB2 and GPO5 for years and only recently tried ou...

Have you tried deleting all MIDI data from the offending measures?

Re: Trumpets sound flat

The tpt pitch sounds fine, but it's kind of buried in the Mix. Some instruments in Garritan libraries are way too soft. Some are way too loud. To control the sound better on some instruments, I place them in their own Aria banks and adjust the sound with the volume settings on the far left of each ...

Re: Trumpets sound flat

How do the sounds in NotePerformer compare with those in Garritan?
I've used GPO5 and COMB2 for many years. Only recently I tried NotePerformer. I love it. I use NotePerformer for all my music now, but not exclusively. I use GPO5 for its percussion sounds, especially cymbals and snare drum.

I routinely use NP3 with GPO5 percussion instruments with no problems. I prefer the GPO5 percussion instrument sounds.

Are you using the Aria player? Put the crash cymbals in its own bank and then raise the bank volume.

Re: youtube

I see you use a Mac and Mojave. Have you tried the screen recording function (full screen, window or selection) which is now available (since Mojave) with Shift+Cmd+5 (on the main keyboard) ? No. Haven't tried it. Recording the whole screen wouldn't work for this kind of application. I think focusi...

Re: youtube

I post scores on YouTube a little differently. It's probably unnecessarily more complicated, though. I play back and record the piece first as an AIFF (Mac) file. Then I create individual score page PDFs, and load them into iMovie. When I worked in Windows, I did the same thing in MovieMaker, but at...

Re: Tips for structuring practice session

My thing is I am bad at telling others what to do. How can I make these sessions effective? It’s tricky for me to know exactly what to focus on. That's why teachers make lesson plans--outlines and objectives of what they want to accomplish in a day, week, month, and semester. Write down some of the...

Re: Any way to dampen sustain of pitched percussion?

Along the lines of hidden staccato notes, you might also copy the staccato mark and then redefine it to a shorter or longer length. I've done this, both hiding and showing the mark. This can be time-consuming in a large score with many staves requiring the adjustment. I don't know why it's not playi...

Re: Any way to dampen sustain of pitched percussion?

The "Percent Alter" is grayed. What did I overlook? It's been a while since I worked in Windows, so the steps may be slightly different. However, as I recall, the steps are the same. Th first step: With selection tool, I just drag the cursor to highlight the note(s) I want to alter. In the MIDI Too...

Re: Any way to dampen sustain of pitched percussion?

I've used oldmkvi's staccato dot and line-dot suggestion, both with hidden and visible accents. To shorten a note's duration, select the note(s), and then bring up the MIDI Tool. Click "Note Durations," and then "Percent Alter." Enter a number. See if that works. I use this technique so often that I...

Re: Unable to apply dynamics to Oohs and Aahs

Are you using the term "channels" interchangeably with "layers"? I suppose channels and layers could be interchangeable, but in most of my scores, they are not. Have you tried moving all the music from channels 1 and 2 to 3, or keeping all the music on channel 1 (and, of course, making the appropri...
