Re: 8vb in Finale Maestro font
John, I hear ya, but I can't ditch the va and vb. I've got recurring clients who want consistency over time with their scores. Motet, you say it's okay to use a Maestro character in an otherwise Finale Maestro document, right? Not sure why I thought that would create a problem. Until the powers-that...

8vb in Finale Maestro font
Hi all, Been awhile since I've posted. I'm just now migrating to F27 and the Finale Maestro font. I am used to seeing the "vb" in "8vb" align with the upper half of the "8". But Finale Maestro font only has the "vb" aligned with the lower half of the "8". Looks weird to me. When I go to Smart Shape ...

Re: remove hyperlink but keep PDF's URL as text?
Mike, thanks; your solution basically works, but when I hover over the URL, the link shows in a separate little popup box. Motet, thanks; I had tried that. Acrobat proudly announced it removed 0 links! And though I hit save, the timestamp didn't change. (eyeroll) I will look into CutePDF Professiona...

remove hyperlink but keep PDF's URL as text?
Greetings, colleagues, Has anyone here ever tried removing or preventing a hyperlink from functioning on a PDF, though the URL still shows as text? Here's the situation. I've made transcriptions of an artist's music. The transcriptions were sponsored by a foundation. The foundation asks me to have t...

secondary beam angle tool and mid-beam stem lengths
Hello colleagues, Starting point: sixteenth note tuplet group with some cross staffing. I created a secondary beam angle that tapers at one end. But the mid-beam stems show outside the beams (fig. A). fig. A.png When I lower the flawed stems with the beam stem adjust tool, the stems drop to create a...

hide center "margins"
Greetings,
In page view, when I choose View > Show > Margins, is there a setting that will allow me to hide the center vertical and horizontal margin lines? I only want to see the margin lines that frame the edges of the page.

subgroups and repeat marks
Greetings all, I'm engraving an orchestral score that has subgroups. (Left of the primary woodwind bracket, there are secondary thin brackets for the two flutes, the two oboes, etc.) When adding repeat marks, I get the little wings at the top and bottom of each group, including the subgroups. (Ick.)...

Re: Get rid of "Score" in PDF
In F2014, in the Score Manager window, under the File Info tab, the last box is "Score Name" Insert Text, and the word Score appears there by default. If I delete it there, the word Score will not appear in the top left of page 1. However, I don't know if F25 is the same in this regard.

Re: swing eighths question
Apparently I've been trying to solve a problem that wasn't one in the first place. (It's not the first time I've been guilty of overthinking something.) Your responses give me several acceptable options for notating this rhythmic figure. I am confident that one of them will look right in the context...

Re: swing eighths question
Miker — Yes, that is the way to go. Motet — I considered your quarter-eighth solution. One would want to see either swing eighths or your quarter-eighth idea consistently throughout the whole song, and I think quarter-eighths are harder to read than swing eighths. The rhythmic vertical mismatch in q...

swing eighths question
I'm running Finale 2014d on a Mac. I'm transcribing a jazz-reminiscent piano arrangement that uses swung eighths throughout. In 4/4 meter, sometimes the right hand plays all three eighth notes of a swing-implied triplet, while the left hand plays just the swung eighths, in other words, the 1st and 3...

Re: eyeglasses symbol
I did a quick search and found these links:

http://www.fileformat.info/info/unicode ... upport.htm
"Symbola" font appears to have glasses going the desired direction.
I hope that helps.

I share this frustration too. I keep a file that has sample chords with these rolls set up as I like, then use the filter to copy and paste articulations only.

Re: Layers not lining up
Brilliant back atcha, Motet! It's been half a year since I've dealt with this. Now I remember setting Manual Positioning to clear, respacing the section, then resetting Manual Positioning to Incorporate. Much quicker than re-entering notes!

Re: Layers not lining up
It doesn't look like a hidden rest to me, because the two layers' stems line up exactly. It appears to me that the notes in the two layers were entered and understood by Finale to be a second apart — for example in the drum kit, bass is low C and snare is low D — then when spacing was applied, the l...

Re: Positioning a trem. sign under centre of note
This has probably already been pointed out elsewhere and doesn't solve the problem of centering a tremolo above or below a whole note. To add to Motet's point, if you go through the motions of flipping a whole note's stem direction (even though there's no stem visible) the tremolo will then appear o...
