Re: Cimbasso

In general one would probably use the valves to help minimize slide movement, although sometimes a lower slide position with less valve is the preferred option. Some contrabass trombones have a handle to help reach the lower slide positions. If you have a contrabass with one rotor it has the same m...

Re: Cimbasso

Can you describe the sound and playability of the contrabass trombone ... I can try. The bass trombone is pitched in Bb exactly the same as a large bore tenor. Its tubing is 9 feet which is identical to the tenor trombone, but it has a larger bore and a larger bell and a larger mouthpiece. The cont...

Re: Unable to save new file

Oh, I might say a total uninstall and reinstall might clear it up. I know that won't help this time but it may fix it for next time. Can you print what you have so it can be recovered?

Re: Unable to save new file

You did try "save as"? Beyond that I have no more solutions or suggestions. You are sure all folders are set up correctly?

Re: Unable to save new file

...I get the message "File not found. Check the file name and try again".
BTW, in your case I think your temp file folder is messed up. Did you delete it while Finale was open? Make sure Finale knows where the temp folder is.

Re: Unable to save new file

It is paramount to tell Finale where things are. My case, I bought a new laptop so I had to deauthorize Finale 26 on the old laptop and reauthorize it on the new laptop. All is well on the new laptop. However, my Finale 2014.5 on the old laptop stopped working. It couldn't save. It couldn't finds th...

Re: Cimbasso

In case anyone is remotely interested! I had and started with a Holton TR181. I moved to a Back 50 dependent and am currently using my Bach 50 open wrap independent. Possibly the best bass trombone I ever played was a Conn 62h owned by my good friend the late Tom Stidham. I know Conn has brought th...

Re: Cimbasso

I was hoping for a more serious answer this time. That was a reality answer. The contrabass trombone is not an easy instrument to play. They are extremely expensive for their possible return, too. I have never played a cimbasso so I can't comment on its playability. I think, at least I heard, KU ha...

Re: Cimbasso

Nothing if you are comparing one of them to a good bass trombone player like Edward Kleinhammer or Charles Vernon. And, that is probably why you don't see them.

Re: Cimbasso

I have been a trombone player/teacher for decades upon decades. It would be a real challenge to make a living being a cimbasso or contrabass trombone player.

Re: Cimbasso

Or did MakeMusic put every instrument they could think of in the instrument list
You are not thinking of writing any music for one? Good luck finding somebody that has one or knows how to play it.
The contrabass trombone is rare enough and is also difficult to play too.

Re: Music spacing at page turns

I often have the situation where I want to put a page turn after a multimeasure rests, but the rest doesn't lie at the end of the system. I see this a lot, too. Most of my concert stuff fits (the parts) on two pages so it doesn't leave a lot of room to adjust. The JW plug-ins and Perfect Layout are...

Re: OT question - scanning for facsimile edition

... for best printing results,... This is the key to me. Who is doing the printing? At home, something like Office Depot, or a real printing shop? Overall, I think the best general printing format is still going to be pdf. Perhaps you should ask the person or company that will be doing the actual p...

In addition the Aria player is a bit different, It now allows add-in or plug-ins like TAL Reverb-4. TAL Reverb-4 is a free reverb, BTW.

Re: Should I get Finale 26?

BTW, I meant to mention Perfect Layout. I consider it a must anymore. I have gotten so used to it I don't know how I got along before without it. I have done more new scores since I got it than I ever thought possible before. It puts 98% of everything exactly where it should be. Plus PL is working o...

Re: Should I get Finale 26?

But I accept it may be me being stuck in my ways ... Maybe so, I am understanding your point more clearly now. As I think I mentioned I make a seperate Finale file for my sound. I also sometimes make a seperate file for my parts. I, too, have reasons for doing this, mine are mostly educational. Fin...

"That's too tiny to read.

It was meant to show the OP where to go to set the parameters for his linked parts. It is not a tutorial on what the settings are to be.

Re: Should I get Finale 26?

Most of my work is for British-style brass bands ... Me too! I don't do a lot but I have done a few charts. And, I play 2nd bone in the local Desoto Brass Band directed by Robert Foster from KU fame. I am not real solid on the "Repiano cornet" or the Eb Baritone/Tenor horn. I am usually, always, as...

Re: Should I get Finale 26?

So far I'm relieved to find not a lot has changed that affects me too much (fingers crossed!). However, my friend, a lot has changed under the hood. IMHO, Finale 26.3 is their best effort yet. Not perfect but better. I, too, was upset with the quality of my sound output but with some adjustments an...

Re: Rests in 6/8. Help!

I find "fill with rests" a great time saver myself,...
So do I, it is way more accurate than it is wrong most of the time for what I do. But I am not a huge fan of dotted rests especially dotted half rests.
