Re: MuseScore 4
This Finale vs.... always ends up preaching to the converted which isn't surprising. I'd like to see a test between a strong Finale user and a strong rather "than I'm giving it a try" user of the other platform for a fair comparison. From reading this forum over the years it is plain that many have ...

Re: Speedy Entry '=' too far away in windows
If none of the software solutions work, and they really should work, you might consider an add-on to your keyboard hardware for music entry. This one has an equal sign on it (many don't). Shown for example only, I've never used it or any other. https://www.amazon.com/Wireless-Portable-Financial-Acco...

Re: convert old .mus MusicTime file to something current
This demonstrates the problem of total reliance on file backups in the age of obsolete software versions and no longer supported hardware devices. Obviously, having good file backups is important and as demonstrated above they have to be carefully monitored and when necessary re-written in a new for...

Another advantage of heavier paper is that a single sheet will stand-up a lot better on a music stand without any additional support mechanisms.

Others who know more about this than I do will likely come to your rescue but in the meantime:
In Midi/Audio -- Device Setup -- Audio Setup (this is where it is in V25) try playing with Buffer size and try a different Audio driver.

Re: installing Finale 2006 Mac Mojave OS
There is a lot of info that says Windows is more backwards compatible than Mac regardless of application. If you go way back to even before Windows when the machines were considered "IBM", backwards compatibility was a key factor in any new release because of the large number of business installatio...

Re: Relink all parts to score?
I am totally in the amateur category and am not trying to sell anything. There are two principles I try to follow when writing anything, music or otherwise. 1. Know your target audience. 2. Write to inform, not to impress. Unfortunately, when writing music for a general audience the target can be qu...

Re: Converting mp3 to sheet music
You can have a look at AnthemScore which reads the MP3 and then lets you save at as an XML file to bring into Finale or other notation software. Also, it can be done with Audacity. However, they say it only works best for a single instrument; AnthemScore says it may work with 2 instruments that are ...

As a matter of interest, how does this fit into transferring/selling an older copy to somebody?

Also be aware that Finale licenses must be for the most current version of the software to be eligible for a transfer.

Re: Migrating to new computer
You can indeed clone your computer but you have to be aware of some things. If you have Windows 10 installed on the old computer and the new one comes with Windows 11, you will end up with your Windows 10 installation on the new computer since the cloning wipes out the installed Windows 11. The Wind...

Re: Open Finale file in Sibelius?
If XML doesn't work and the charts are simple you could drop down to a MIDI file. Not elegant but it would be something, especially if he is an accomplished Sibelius user, he could fix up quickly from a PDF of the scores. I have a friend who uses an old Encore version and MIDI is all he ever wants.

Re: SmartScore 64 Update Released
On the Musitek site in the Upgrades section there are instructions how to add a comment requesting to be setup for download. It looks like they want $10 for that perhaps which is usually backwards since most charge more for a DVD! You are best to try the Demo version on some of your pieces. The copy...

I don't know if your "invitation" took this into consideration but Windows 11 is one that somewhat departs from Microsoft's being backwards compatible more so than Apple. Not all machines will run Windows 11 it has to have a fairly recent CPU chip, my i7 of about 5 or 6 years ago is too old since it...

Re: Finale AND Dorico (maybe MuseScore, Notion Sibelius, etc. also)
Finale's capabilities are certainly driving Dorico's development. The real question is: will Dorico's capabilities drive Finale's development? For instance, what are the chances of seeing multi-stave note entry in Finale, so that chords are distributed across more than one staff? I think the "Dead ...

I think it would be interesting to have Daniel Spreadbury read this forum and discuss how some of the concerns in this thread and the other one where the "fine tuning" is not available in Dorico might be addressed in the future, if at all. IMO, the issue is that Finale does not have interest in the ...

I don't use AOEMI but use Macrium Reflect for imaging and cloning although I prefer to just make an image and restore it to the new drive than clone but that is not the issue. Re: Suggestions for new desktop PC setup?
If you get something like an i7, try the on chip (part of CPU) graphics first. The current offerings are a far, far cry from the original on-chip graphics. Unless you are doing action gaming or something like Flight Simulator 2020 you may find it is all you need and save a few dollars since graphics...
