Re: Hide staff in system

That handle and dashed line show that the staff has already been hidden.

However,
Respacing moves it back. I have AMS on but one can turn it off, I suppose.

Re: Hide staff in system

While in the Staff Tool, select a measure or measures on the staff in the system you want. Then, from the drop-down menu for the Staff Tool, select Hide Empty Staves.

Re: Playing MINI Drums info Finale

First off, you mean MIDI drums, not MINI drums. Second, in one post you mention PrintMusic. However, your profile says you have Finale 3.1. So, in which program are you trying to enter via MIDI drums?

Re: Space before mid-measure clef

I don't know of a setting. For the ones that occur at the barline, entering a negative number for extra space at the end of a measure can help with that.

Re: Placing chords on the up beat

To follow up on that method, beaming will work as in 4/4 if you use a composite signature of 4+4/8.

Re: Placing chords on the up beat

If playback is not important for chord symbols (they generally sound awful), just drag or nudge it over. Or, make the time signature for a 4/4 bar 8/8 to show as 4/4. Or use hidden rests as Motet suggested. Interesting behavior in Finale is that you can use hidden rests, place the chord, and then de...

Re: Part Names

If you do Generate Parts (whole document), the manually assigned staff names will be used for the linked parts. However, if you manually generate a part, or want to change the name of a part, then you need to do that manually in manage Parts.

Re: Playback problems for one file

Is VST selected on the MIDI menu? On a Mac it's Audio Units, not VST. I suggest looking at the Audio Units banks and see if anything is assigned there. The fastest way to get sound is to Reapply Playback Sounds. However, if you want different sounds than those associated with the staff names, you m...

I suppose we need an exact description of the behavior. Even better would be a file to examine. I don't have any issues, so, in order to hunt down the problem, we need to be able to run specific steps.

Re: whole note in 7/8 bar

Well, your profile shows SongWriter. You might want to update that, as we try to give advice based on the Finale software being used. Whether you are using Speedy or Simple, both means of input have a setting to check for extra notes (too many for the bar). Unchecking that allows you to put more val...

Re: whole note in 7/8 bar

Finale allows you to overfill a bar if needed. However, you're using SongWriter, so I can't say for that.

There were 2 of them applied to bar 28. In the score, select a handle there and delete it. Then repeat for the duplicate.

Re: Lyrics: 'phrase-end dash' over double barline

In looking at this thread, I was reminded of a bug introduced in 2014 that MakeMusic has acknowledged, but it appears has not been fixed as of v26.2.1. When one enters certain barlines, Finale automatically checks the option to break Smart Word Extensions, which is usually the required behavior. How...

I believe you can select the staff with the MIDI Tool and alter the start times to be a bit earlier.

P.S.: It works in my test, but only without HP. I'm not sure why.

And, after testing, I guess it's just the alt needed in my case, as I have that option unchecked in preferences. Using alt allows mouse dragging. However, using the arrows to nudge does not allow going past the barline. Odd.

Re: position smart shape

When I move the end handle, the anchor point changes. If I hold shift-alt, then the anchor point remains the same, and the end doesn't move. I had forgotten about using modifier keys. Maybe you have your system set up to do his automatically. In preferences, shift is one choice, alt the other. I gue...

Even doing it that way, the end point moves upon redraw. After deleting the rest, there's no endpoint move after redraw.

Re: position smart shape

Eureka! Success at last. You had an extra hidden eighth rest in the measure with the septuplet, following the last quarter note. Once that was deleted, all seemed to work well. The box now needs to be resized, however, as deleting the rest extended the right side. If you need extra space on the righ...
