Re: Gliss for multi staff instrument doesn't playback correctly

Since rests don't move via the Cross Staff Tool, you can either hide them in the lower staff and put them in the upper staff manually (hide the first one), or move them up from the lower staff in Simple Entry by selecting the note and moving it with the up arrow key. However, if you respace the dist...

Re: Version 26 scrolling playback bug

When that happens, first I try Reload MIDI Driver. Failing that, I close and reopen Finale. Zuill P.S.: If I'm working on something new before I save it, I have to save it first before I close and reopen. A bit of a pain, especially if it is just something I really didn't intend to save. Also, I've ...

Re: Adjusting tenor sax range?

If you want the parts to display properly, then you need to keep the transposition as is. When in the score, using concert pitch view, you'll see the notes a 9th lower than written in transposed view. I don't think there's any way around that. However, if you prefer to see them in Treble, as opposed...

Re: Gliss for multi staff instrument doesn't playback correctly

The Tool is called the Note Mover Tool. However, for Cross Staff, you have to select that from the Note Mover Tool drop-down menu. So you did suggest the correct tool. In my demo file, I entered the B in the space above the top line of the Bass Staff. I then dragged the note up with the Cross Staff ...

Re: Gliss for multi staff instrument doesn't playback correctly

The Cross Staff method does work. It looks like you didn't quite do it that way. If you want to do it without that workaround, then go to HP Preferences and turn off the gliss feature called "Delay when possible". This is a global setting, so if there are places where you want the delay, then you're...

Re: Pizz. affecting all staves

Follow-up. I tested earlier versions and 2012 seems to be the last version that behaves the way 2009 does. There's something they changed starting with 2014. I can't say what the change is, or if there is a way around the change. Zuill P.S.: Also, listening to the non-pizz staves in their own linked...

Re: Pizz. affecting all staves

I see what you are talking about. If I change the channel of one instrument in the 2009 file opened in v26, and then change it back, that also links the 2 staves in regards to the pizz playback. You might want to send these files to MakeMusic and have them figure it out. The only workaround I can co...

Re: Redraw needed when switching to Selection tool

I don't see that behavior in v26. I tried to be certain I followed your steps. After editing, I used the mouse to choose the Selection Tool and the handles disappeared. Double-clicking Esc also got the Selection Tool without the handles showing.

Re: Pizz. affecting all staves

Your description is a bit confusing, but v26 should be able to do what you did in 2009. What I get from your description is that you use the Pizz. expression to basically change the channel to a different MIDI channel, which has the Pizz instrument assigned. It sounds like all your string staves are...

How do you unlink a rest or note?
Special Tools/Note Position Tool. Right Click the handle and the option is there. No need to move it first. You can Relink it there as well. This can be done in the Score or the Part.

If the playback tempo is even without HP, then HP is the cause. Make a test and see what happens.

Re: Different rest position in score and linked part

Rethinking this whole thing, my talk of Voice 2 led me to explore what might be an easier solution, not involving an extra Layer. You can enter a duplicate rest in Voice 2 (V2). Then unlink the rests between Score and Part. Now, move the V2 rest off the page in the Score, and move the V1 rest off th...

Re: Different rest position in score and linked part

Strangely, if you move a rest in a part, it becomes orange (= unlinked), but it moves in the score as well. This abnormal behavior should be reported to MakeMusic. Unlinking is primarily for horizontal adjustments, not vertical. This is sometimes needed to fine tune positioning of notes when there ...

Oh forgot to mention also that there seems to be no way to hide a note in only the score.
That's probably true. You can Unlink a note and then slide it off the page (Horizontally) in the Score. The note will still show in the Part in the normal spot.

Re: Stave Clashing

Finale includes a plugin called Vertical Collision Remover. I know it's not as comprehensive as Perfect Layout, by any means, but if it solves the immediate problem, it should at least be tried.

Re: Different rest position in score and linked part

Well, then you also have an additional voice for each layer. With Piano music, which often has extra rhythms on only one beat, using Voice 2 saves a lot of headaches. Just another Finale Tool that someone had enough sense to invent. I know my workaround can be tedious, but sometimes tedious is bette...

Re: Different rest position in score and linked part

It might depend on exactly what you have. If we could see a sample, that might help. One way to accomplish what I think you want is to use an additional Layer. Have Layer 1 be what is shown in the score. Have Layer 4 be the cue, and then have Layer 2 be the Layer 1 duplicate notes. In thee Score, on...

Re: copy/paste guitar notes into tablature - in parts

I meant Scroll or Studio View in the Score. There, even if the TAB Staff is hidden in Page View, it is not hidden in Scroll or Studio View. That way you don't need the extra linked part. Also, in Scroll View while in the S ore, you can also create a Staff Set with only those 2 staves.

Re: copy/paste guitar notes into tablature - in parts

In MIDI/Audio Menu, Device setup, Tablature MIDI Channels, if the box at the top is checked, that' could be your input problem. Uncheck that box. That is only used if you are inputting from a MIDI controller where each string is set to a different MIDI channel. If you're getting all the notes on str...

Re: copy/paste guitar notes into tablature - in parts

Regarding your original post, you stated you cannot enter notes directly into the TAB staff with Simple Entry. Since I can, I'm wondering what's happening for you. Also, I discovered using the Note Mover Tool, you can copy from the Guitar to the TAB Staff when in the Linked combo part.

Re: copy/paste guitar notes into tablature - in parts

Is the TAB staff hidden in both Page and Scroll View in the Score? If it is still visible in Scroll View, and the 2 staves are adjacent, why not just do the copy/paste in Scroll View? That seems easier than the other approach.
