Single diagonal line repeat sign
Hello, I have a piece with a lot of repetitive figures and wish to insert repeat symbols for the second half of this measure, for example: https://imgur.com/a/W2yNi6H. How could I go about this? If I right-click a selected region and try to apply a Staff Style, there are only one- and two-bar repeat...

Resizing all notation content?
I used to remember how to do this but have forgotten. I remember there being a way to enter a percent to resize your document's content so you can make all the staves and notes smaller or bigger to your liking. If I remember correctly I don't think it affects text like the title, but I'm not entirel...

How to scale document
I'll try to describe what I'm trying to do as clearly as possible; I used to know how to do this a long time ago but have forgotten. How would you go about making everything on your document smaller (or bigger)? I remember there being a menu somewhere that you could adjust a percentage to change the...

Re: Finale 2015 startup error: Audio Engine failed to load
I had the same exact issue and solved it (although I use Finale v25) and my Reset ReWire button was grayed out as well; at the bottom of that website there are two blue bars, one of which is labeled "Finale versions 25 and 26 and FInale 2014.5." I followed the simple instructions in there and no lon...

ARIA Player Error (No Playback Sound) Repost/Update
(Reposting because some new issues also came up.) Hello, I have an issue when playing back; no sound comes out, and when I load the VST Viewer (MIDI/Audio > VST Banks & Effects > Pencil icon next to Bank 1: ARIA Player), this error message pops up. ARIA Player Error.png A couple weeks ago I uninstal...

How to play back string solos in full orchestras?
When writing for the full orchestra in Finale, is there a way to write a violin/cello/viola/bass solo so that you only hear one of the instrument instead of the section? Sometimes, for dramatic effect, I want to do this but don't know how to have it so that it's played back as a solo. (One example w...

Re: Advice about layout/reducing pages
This is a bit of a late reply, but I just have a few sorta basic things I've used for many scores... Resize Tool (percent sign at the top): Click on the top right of the first page, and entire a value out of 100 to reduce the score to. Staff Tool (treble clef): Makes handles appear on staves that yo...

Re: Suspended cymbal roll crescendo
When I open the VST Viewer it says Garritan Instruments for Finale. (Not sure if it's necessarily GPO5.) I've tried all but am not completely satisfied with, and it may be asking for the impossible, any of the cymbal sounds. Suspended Cymbal Roll: When I put a three-line tremolo mark on it, it doesn...

Suspended cymbal roll crescendo
I'm trying to figure out how to make a suspended cymbal roll with the percussion instrument and make it have an effective crescendo. On Finale 25, I've tried using a few of the cymbal sounds on the space above the first line on the percussion instrument (or a high G on treble clef), adding a tremolo...

How do I apply the X-noteheads staff style to one layer?
I have composed a piece for piano and vibraphone duet that incorporates a lot of rhythm and syncopation between the two instruments. In one particular passage I want to add a rhythm that the piano is playing as X-noteheads under the main melody that the vibraphone plays (which I want to be regular n...

Re: Motet's transposition chart
OHHH, it took me a minute to get what you meant. The only reason I got it was because I played trumpet in 5th grade and the written notes were transposed a major 2nd up from the trumpet's sound.

Re: Pizzicato problem
I've run into another problem. There are two ways (that I know of) that you can play your music back: 1) Press the triangle play button at the top left, or 2) hold the space bar, during which your pointer will appear as an ear, and click the measure you want to start playback from. Whenever I use th...

Re: Solo strings not playing pizz. (ARIA Player)
Never mind. It took a couple minutes for it to "register" or something, I guess. I did nothing wrong; it was just a matter of patience.
Thank you so much! My pizzicato cello sounds lovely.

Pizzicato problem
I'm using ARIA Player on Windows Finale 25 for a string quartet I'm composing for a competition that requires a MIDI recording sent in. Do the pizz. and arco markings from the Expression Tool affect the plucking and bowing of ARIA's string instruments? In my case they're not. I made sure they're not...

What about the viola's alto clef and the cello's tenor clef? Those might be useful to indicate; I don't know if it's completely necessary.

Re: Piano not playing in piano trio
I went into MIDI/Audio > VST Banks and Effects and turned up the volume for Bank 2, SmartMusic Soft Synth, which made the piano sound. Then I accidentally did something funky and now the violin and cello won't play... So I'm just going to start a new document because I didn't have much written anywa...

Re: Piano not playing in piano trio
The pop-up I mentioned had something to do with Aria, I think. I doubt I ever touched the tracks and muted them, but I have no idea what's going on, so here's a file.
