Re: Any way to permanently terminate the reverb?
If an instrument signal is to low: Open the Aria player (which runs Garritan sounds) and check the mod wheel levels, which control CC11. Yes. This happens to me quite frequently. It is a real PITA. Finale or Aria ought to set the mod wheel to zero every time playback begins. This seems like such a ...

Re: Any way to permanently terminate the reverb?
You must have a powerful sound system to make use of Aria player. The signal is choked to accommodate the huge dynamic range in orchestration. So for a classical guitarist, little gain is available. If you have a milti-band compressor as a VST, drop that on the master bus. That can reduce the dynam...

Re: Chord Symbols now in Dorico
I would be very frustrated if I cannot use different chord suffixes for different instruments in the situations you describe, I have asked Dorico for clarification but haven't heard anything yet. I suppose you could add BOTH chord spellings to the system and they hide the ones you don't want to app...

Re: Chord Symbols now in Dorico
sometimes I want different chords to appear on different staves ..... That is an excellent point that totally slipped my mind. For the bass part, I often write a suggest part (explicitly notated) and also offer the chords if the player would rather make his own line. But I often simplify the chord ...

Re: Chord Symbols now in Dorico
The workflow and I are utterly incompatible. Mike, could you elaborate? This is my biggest concern, I have not had hands on, but I have followed it closely for a couple of years. Most of it seems quite elegant, and the chord implementation is no exception. I find FInale maddening in its chord suppo...

Re: What paper do you print on?
For a readily available white paper, I use Hammermill Color Copy Digital, either 28# or 32#. For anything other than one-time use I would use at least 28#. Anything lighter is flimsy and easily blows off the music stand. I doubt if you will find these weights in the local office supply store, but th...

Re: "Scrub mode" playback for single instruments is unreliab
The only time I get the strange behavior is in the Selection Tool. It seems that when in other Tools, it doesn't happen. Good catch. I see the same thing. That helps a lot because until this is fixed, I will still be able to work around the problem by switching tools. I have reported this and MakeM...

Re: "Scrub mode" playback for single instruments is unreliab
I'm guessing Craig has a faster system if he's running V. 25. Yes, that is a very fast system with loads of memory. It was purpose-built to run my DAW. I agree that scrubbing seems to work OK if you use VST output. MIDI output should be a lighter load, so it is surprising that VST works and MIDI do...

Re: "Scrub mode" playback for single instruments is unreliab
It's messed up for me, and not only your file, but mine, too. Scrubbing worked fine in 2011, so this seems like yet another thing they broke and neglected to test. The cursor turns immediate to "wait" mode, so it seems to be thrashing. Once again, I wish they would systematically test all features-...

Re: "Scrub mode" playback for single instruments is unreliab
Here is a file that messes up for me. I would appreciate if anybody else can try doing the scrub mode of playback to see if all the notes play perfectly. (Shft-Ctrl-spacebar and then fly the mouse over individual notes.) This file plays in MIDI mode using the softsynth in bank 1. I should add that o...

Re: "Scrub mode" playback for single instruments is unreliab
You might try "Reload MIDI Driver" on the MIDI menu. I have to do this a lot. Thanks for that idea. It didn't seem to change the problem, but it was worth a try. I did some further testing. It seems to be a case of interaction / clashes of notes on different staves. I have a clarinet part that is a...

Re: "Scrub mode" playback for single instruments is unreliab
I did some further testing. At times, it works 100% perfectly, but then it gets into a mode where only a small percentage of the notes sound. 1) For my test, I loaded up my DAW with an orchestral template that has MIDI inputs for every instrument in the orchestra. This plays back fine when using the...

"Scrub mode" playback for single instruments is unreliable
I have always felt this was one of the best features of Finale. Theoretically, when looking at the score, you can press ctrl-shft-spacebar, and then mouse over notes to hear individual notes from individual instruments. But it seems that this feature is no longer working reliably. I suppose this may...

Re: Talk to me like I'm an idiot
I want Pad 1 to be the Hi Hat, Pad 7 to the bass drum, etc...I am completely lost as everything I have tried (For example, setting Pad 8 for MIDI note C5) so it could be for inputting snare drum... I wish I could be helpful, but I have always found the percussion section one of the most maddening p...
