Re: Different Clefs for Different Layers

You can also do this or a variation of it. The bass clef is a text expression and the bracket a custom smart shape.

Re: Screen redraw

Do you have tupletized grace notes in the score? I might be wrong, but tuplet notation in grace notes is not used in straightforward real world notation. Groups of 2, 3 or 4 grace notes are usually notated as beamed 16ths; single grace notes have a single flag. Getting rid of the tuplet notation mig...

Re: Measure Attributes - Measure Width, default?

Turn Automatic Music Spacing on (Preferences > Edit).

My rule of thumb is to keep AMS on when entering music, then turn it off when doing layout and adjustments. If needed, you can still apply spacing manually (select measure(s) and hit 4).

Re: Layering Overlap

The upper note(s) should be in layer 1, the lower in layer 2. That way, stem directions are correct.

Re: coloured notes are exported as black and white?

Finale's export graphics only produces black and white, which is normal. To export the display colors, you'd have to use a PDF creator that exports color and set the print dialog to "print display colors".

Re: Unable to "Save as Audio File"... any workarounds?

Just so everyone knows, you are talking about Finale versions and Mac OSX versions that are more than 10 years old. Most all users will be using more up to date software. I haven't had any problems with Finale and save to audio file, but maybe others do. In which case Motet's suggestion of Audacity ...

Why don't you use the keyboard shortcut to select the double whole note? See the Help menu > Keyboard Shortcuts > Simple Entry.

Re: beaming 4 eighth notes

I might be wrong, but it seems 7/4 should always beam eighths in 2s. Otherwise, you run into 4+4+4+2, or 2+4+4+4, or 4+2+4+4, or ?????

Re: desending bass line

It is possible to do what you want with the Chord Tool. The b7, #7 and 6 should be created as chord suffixes. Type G as the chord root above each note of the triplet, then use "Edit Chord Definition" to add each of the 3 new suffixes. To hide the chord root on each of these, use Utilities > Change >...

Re: Noteheads

#3 - If you're talking about moving a notehead less than 1 space, you can use the JW Change plugin. Unfortunately, the JW plugins are not supported in Finale 2007. #2 - JW Change will do this. Actually, it does not hide the notehead. What you do is move the noteheads vertically by an amount that pla...

I tried and it works.
I didn't know
Look in the "Help" menu for "Keyboard Shortcuts". Lots of interesting stuff in there. Also, right click on any item in a score to get a contextual menu that will modify the entry in various ways.

I'm guessing the update overwrote the plugin. If you move the plugin to the desktop, then install the update, then move the plugin back - that might be the thing to do.

Re: Problems with margins

I would: √ Make PDFs of the Finale pages using the Finale Graphics Tool. √ Set up a page using a page layout app that has the specified margins in place. I imagine something as unversal as Microsoft Word would do the job, √ Import the Finale PDFs into the page layout app and resize the imported PDF ...

Re: Expanding the Finale Templates

Adding the two new staves is easy enough, as is creating the two new parts. As mentioned, if you add and create them in the wrong place, they won't appear in score order in the parts. They appear at the end. Easy enough if you remember that, but how often are you building templates? You're right - ...

Now, does this have anything to do with the admonition "Notes in a part with a specified voicing must be edited while viewing the score."? {?????????????????} Yes. Does it matter? Re: Did v26 do away with Space Measures Evenly?

The way I do it: Lock the layout. With the Measure Tool, select all measures and hit the enter key. The measure attributes window is now set to affect all measures. Under measure width, type in a smallish amount, 1 or 2 inches. Hit OK. The actual measure width will not be the 1 or 2 inches, but the ...
