Re: JW Lua plugin doesn't show

Did you quit and restart Finale? Is the plugin you downloaded a 64 bit version?

Re: Misplaced ties and slurs

Another thing to consider is that the Engraver fonts were changed several years ago, and that has caused problems. One of the changes is the font name style. For instance, EngraverFontSet and Engraver Font Set are 2 different fonts. According to your list of annotation files, the font you have insta...

Re: Misplaced ties and slurs

Try this-

Open a file. If the ties and slurs aren't right, go to Document Menu > Set Default Music Font. The right font is probably selected, so click OK. Any difference?

Following these directions, you are not usually making a change, just "touching" the dialog, which may do something.

Re: Create multimeasure rests in linked parts

If you put a rehearsal mark (number, letter) at the beginning of each phrase, Finale will automatically start a MM rest at that point, or end one at that point. As to why you have no MM rests showing, I don't know. If you go to the Edit Menu, go down to MM Rests > Create for score or part. That will...

OK. Glad yours pulls up but all I get is a pop up saying to upgrade. Not blaming anyone for the problems - stuff happens often enuf. But this conversation is an appreciation of the information and my skills don't translate to operable. Is there anything I can do? I've got projects sitting there. Gr...

Re: Irrational time signatures

I suppose the only way to do it in Finale is to use hidden tuplets. Set the Time Signature to the nearest rational time, hide the displaying time and replace with a text expression time.

Dorico produces irrational time natively, although I'm not sure how full featured this is at present.

Re: Aligning notes in separate layers

I leave AMS on as long as I am doing initial entry, in Scroll view. After I go to page view for layout, I turn it off. I guess everybody has a method that works for them. That's the way I roll, too. Additionally, my preferred way to make manual spacing tweaks is with the Special Tools Note Position...

Re: Hold off on Catalina?

I don't envy the MM staff having to adjust to all these Mac OS:es. Maybe, if they hadn't to, we should see some significant improvements to the program itself. To be fair, we users really don't know just how much effort is needed to make sure Finale is compatible with changing Mac OSes. Blaming Mac...

Re: Guitar Tab "X" Overlaps Other Notes

Just a guess-

Right click on the notehead handle and choose "Edit". Here you can change the size of the notehead font and the font itself. Try making it 1 point smaller. Or, try changing to a text font X like Hellvetica or Arial, any sans serif font.

Re: Pasting text font

Another possibility-

Copy and paste all of the text - do not change the fonts just yet. When you're done, use Edit > Text Search and Replace to fix the fonts. Set the options to be the type of text - text blocks, text expressions, etc.

I wonder what the problem is. I can delete a G below the staff. Make sure you're in the right layer.
It depends upon the distance between staves. If they are close, you end up getting into the "zone" of the stave below and the eraser has no effect.

Finale's onscreen rendering is not so good. The example should print out accurately, and that's what matters to most users.

The notes are resized regular notes, not grace notes.
What is the significance of the resized notes? I would leave them at the regular size to prevent confusion - they look like grace notes. And maybe add a "7" because it seems to be a 7 tuplet. Possibly mark "freely" if that's what you want.

Go to the first staff. Press the mouse button and "draw a lasso" around the beats you want to select, let's say beats 3 and 4. Release the mouse button, press shift, and click on beat 3 of the last staff.
