Re: Format Questions
Just wondering about the anacrusis in the piano measure... would semiquaver rests be used there?
Good luck with the project!

Try Time Sig Tool: number of beats = 1, and beat duration = dotted minim.

Re: Updates/Finale
I can add that Finale is working on my Big Sur OS. I went from Mojave to Big Sur in one jump. My keyboard's USB driver isn't ready for Big Sur yet, but I have an external midi interface which works with Big Sur. The TGTools and JW plugins are behaving themselves after I fingerpoked with the develope...

Thankyou to everybody for your thoughts on this topic
thomsmit57 and jetcopy: It is really cool to read your comments about complementary use of Finale and DAW. I look forward to exploring the intersection of both programs, too. It is exciting territory!

Finale compared to DAW
Hi all, Just some observations after using a DAW recently to create a minute of music of a big cinematic orchestral/choral type. Because I am pretty good at improvisation, I found the process of playing in each instrumental track very fast and very liberating, compared to if I had been scoring it in...

Musicus, In case no one else has mentioned it, check that you have the most up to date driver for the KX88 (if it uses a driver). The Yamaha website might have it to download for free? I have usually had to make sure that my keyboards / midi interfaces etc have drivers that are compatible with the c...

Re: Creating Rubato for playback
I needed this in my score the other day and here's how I did it: I put metronome markings at the exact places where they were appropriate, and then I used an accel. expression and a rall. expression before or after the metronome markings, as appropriate. Then (using the contextual menu, right click?...

Re: Fermata on a default whole bar rest
Thanks, Zuill! I should have known that :-) Something else that I wanted to ask: I have a bar with layer 1 and layer 2, and at the end of the bar, both layers share a single minim rest. How do I force Finale to give me a minim rest for each layer? When I add both minim rests, Finale automatically ma...

Thanks,

Re: Dynamics below the stave
Thanks for this advice. I've adjusted the category and am back in action. Normally, I put the dynamics above the staff for vocals, but on this occasion the score is entirely "a bocca chiusa" and when I had a quick look at how Puccini notated it, sure enough he puts the dynamics below. Or at least hi...

Dynamics below the stave
Hi all,
I set up a vocal score in the wizard which automatically puts the dynamics above the vocal stave.
Where should I look to revert that option so that dynamics will automatically go under the staff as per a normal instrument?
Cheers and thx,
Hector.

Anyone using this at present? Impressions?
The idea is that it converts your handwriting into notation on the iPad.
If I had an new iPad, I'd give that app a whirl.

Divisi slur
Hi all, In a choir score, the soprani start in unison (on one stave), then at bar three they divide into two staves. Everything is under one slur... How do I carry over the slur into the lower divisi staff? Do I start the lower divisi staff's slur as a straight line and curve it normally at its end?...

Re: Finale suddenly doesn't recognize my synthesizer
Hi Capricorn, I don't have an authoritative answer, but... Check if the USB ports on the computer and the midi interface are dust free. (Mine have been known to clog up). Also, powering down and starting up everything afresh might help. Have you tried the check box in your picture that says Auto-det...

Calculations to do with printing cost for music
Hi everyone, I'm working out the cost per page of printing my Finale score... With regard to laser printer toner cartridges, the one I am researching says it's good for 15000 A4 pages at circa 5% coverage. Do you think that printing music would also be 5% page coverage, generally speaking? If so, $4...
