Re: Copyright notice in Document Style
Thank you, motet! :) Regarding my Document Style document, it seems to be working ok, however when I look at it the first page looks like US Letter size and when I make extra pages of bars, the 2nd and 3rd pages etc are A4. I desire all pages to be A4 and have set it in both places that I know of (F...

Re: Copyright notice in Document Style
Hi Karl, Thanks heaps for that info! To explain more fully what I have been up to, I've been creating a fully customised Document Styles document in MacHD>Library>ApplicationSupport>MakeMusic>Finale26>MusicFiles>DocumentStyles. Then, when I boot up Finale, I go to setup wizard, select my customised ...

Re: Copyright notice in Document Style
Thanks, Karl! After reading your post, I realised that the setup wizard was pre-filling a single "©" character in the copyright info area, thus overriding my customisation in my document setting file! Sorted now. I just need to work out how to stop the wizard from pre-filling the "©" in the copyrigh...

Copyright notice in Document Style
Hi,
In my Document style file, I customised the copyright notice using the score manager window, however it's not being remembered in my document style when I open a new doc. Am I doing it wrong? Or is it not supposed to remember that?
Cheers,
Hector.

Re: Music spacing
Just a thought... I recently used the measure tool's "beat spacing" feature. If used judiciously, one can "even up" the note spacing of a part so that it looks ok, while still maintaining alignment with everything else. But do keep an eye on what happens to other parts, so that you don't create a pr...

Hi all, Macintosh HD>Library>Application Support>MakeMusic When I get to the MakeMusic folder, I have the following: Common Finale <------------? Finale 26 Finale 2014 Finale 2014.5 SmartMusic 2010 Q. What version does the "Finale" folder belong to? It's contents doesn't seem to state it. (The Final...

Title page question
Hi all, I am wondering how to best express the instrumentation in my title. The actual instrumentation is (3 players) soprano saxophone, alto saxophone and steel pans. My thoughts so far: 1. "My New Piece" for two saxophones (S/A) and steel pans. 2. "My New Piece" for soprano saxophone, alto saxopho...

Re: Engraving models
I've lately been comparing a batch of scores to find the best features of them all. I compare a different batch every now and then, from the shelf at random. Latest batch includes: • Chopin Etüden Urtext (G. Henle Verlag), © 1983. (Op 25, Nr 1 uses various note sizes which is interesting). The paper...

Re: 8va line
Found the answer here: https://www.scoringnotes.com/tips/change-the-appearance-of-octave-lines-in-finale-and-sibelius/ If I understand correctly, it changes the settings for all smart shapes, but I have only used such lines for 8va anyway. Here is my finished product: Screen Shot 2021-10-03 at 10.16...

8va line
Hi all,
Where can I finger poke to extend the little vertical line at the close of 8va's? It is a little bit short.
Cheers and thanks,
HP.

Re: Too many notes
Thanks, Anders. Indeed, the 32nds are mostly up and down stuff. I've reduced the note size to 80% and, with a little bit of beat chart adjustment thrown in, I am getting two bars per system quite nicely, and am able to keep the Mastro wide font in use.
Cheers,
Hector.

Re: sfz
Just a final quick follow-up question: Given that sfz is considered more an articulation than a dynamic, should I attach sfz to the right hand and left hand notes or is one sfz between the grand stave enough? I want both hands to apply the sfz. so I am thinking I need two. Screen Shot 2021-10-02 at ...

pedal symbol question
Hi all, I accidentally used both these variants of pedal lines in my score and am wondering which one I should stay with. Screen Shot 2021-10-02 at 10.20.47 am.jpg My intention for the pedalling is to indicate normal piano damper pedal usage. Advice appreciated :) HP. PS: I note that Gould's book us...

Re: dead horse
For decades I composed with pencil and paper, though in recent decades I'm composing straight into Finale (using midi keyboard, but not hyperscribe). Q. From a composing perspective, would you say that Dorico and Finale are about the same regarding the ease in which to compose directly into the prog...

Re: sfz
Thanks David and ebiggs1 :) I've taken the ">" off my sfz notes and it is looking less cluttered now. The sfz's are in a piano part and wood wind parts. Regarding playback of sfz, that seems be be functioning, maybe it's something to do with my HP settings. On with the polishing.... Cheers and many ...

sfz
Hi all, I use these accents ">" quite a lot, and I now wish to occasionally use sfz or sffz for extra emphasis. Gould p.115 suggests that the sfz and sffz etc. replaces the accent, so consequently I plan to delete the accents where I have sfz or sffz. The idea being that one should not have an accen...

Re: Stack-spacing
Hi Bill, Thanks for the tip. My accent "distance from entry" setting, says 0.12347 I don't remember changing it, but maybe I did! I wonder if anyone else can chime in with their "default" setting for the accent? Even with my setting of 0.12347, most accents above a slur in my score are ok, it's just...
